Anybody who knew Chris knew he loved the little things in life the laughs, the brotherhood, and simply being around good people. Tomorrow we come together as a club and as brothers to get a run around in, share some stories, and honor a man who meant so much to so many of us.

Gone, but never forgotten.

This week on Behind the Crest, we’re highlighting the big man from the little island — Robert Kamea Lotolua Lousiale Kava… but around here, the boys just know him as Bobby Kava.

Raised in American Samoa, Bobby attended Tafuna High School where he played football before continuing his football career at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He later served in the U.S. Army while continuing to lead both on and off the field.

Between deployments and military assignments taking him to different parts of the world, Bobby eventually found his way back home to Southern Pines Rugby, and we couldn’t be happier to have him back in the green and white.

One thing that stands out most about Bobby is the man he is off the pitch. A devoted husband and father, it’s awesome watching him raise such great young humans while balancing life as a hockey dad and leader in every space he steps into.

On the pitch, Bobby is quiet, but he leads by example. Monstrous hits, hard runs, and a work ethic that speaks louder than words. We’re pretty sure some of the boys are intimidated by him at first… but off the field he’s one of the gentlest giants you’ll ever meet.

Fun fact: Bobby’s name is apparently on a plaque somewhere in rural South Carolina for being one of only eight people at the time to complete a local pizza challenge.

We’re proud to call Bobby part of the Southern Pines Rugby family.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms of Southern Pines Rugby. Past, present, rugby moms by blood, or moms who stepped in and treated the boys like their own.

Y’all helped shape and raise some amazing humans. The love, support, sacrifices, encouragement, and values you poured into your kids helped create the kind of people we’re proud to stand beside every weekend.

A lot of the heart behind this club comes from the homes and families that raised these men and women to care for others, work hard, and be there for their people.

From all of us at SoPi Rugby, thank you for everything y’all do and continue to do. We hope today reminds you how appreciated and loved you truly are.
