The season may be over… but Hug Wrestling isn’t slowing down. 🖤💚

Our Hawks are still putting in the work, sharpening their skills, and building for next season — and this weekend our Lady Hawks showed exactly what that looks like at the Rumble in Reno 💪🔥

🏆 Natasha Ramirez — 116 lb Champion
🏆 Mirakle Hardaway — 145 lb Champion
🥈 Mia Quiroz — Runner-Up
🥉 Sadie Vargas — 3rd Place

All FOUR finished top 3 in their weight class — and two brought home belts.

Mirakle stepped up in a big way, toeing the line with this year’s Regional Champion from Galena (a 4th place state finisher) and came out victorious. That’s next-level confidence. She’s making a strong case as one of the top 3 pound-for-pound female wrestlers in Northern Nevada.

The coaching staff couldn’t be prouder of these athletes choosing development over downtime. THAT is how you change the culture of sports at Hug High School.

Wrestling making HISTORY…
…not once, but TWICE. 🔥

For the first time ever, we crowned a NIAA Girls Wrestling State Medalist as Mirakle Hardaway placed 3rd at the State Championships, making school history and setting the standard for the future of Hug girls wrestling.

We also doubled our medal count from last year, bringing home 2 state medals. Brian Bernabe-Verdin made history of his own, becoming the first Hug athlete to medal in both 3A and 5A, placing 4th this year and becoming Hug’s ONLY 3x state place finisher.

Both our boys and girls teams finished Top 15 in the state with the smallest team in attendance — proving it’s about quality over quantity.

The boys (3 athletes) all advanced to Day 2, earning 1 medal, with Sergio Olivera and Aiden Navarro finishing Top 6 in the state.

The girls (2 athletes) both advanced to Day 2, earning 1 medal, with Mia Quiroz also finishing Top 6 in the state.

The coaching staff couldn’t be more proud of the way our athletes toed the line and competed with the best in Nevada. History made. Standard raised. 🖤💚

Huge congratulations to Brian Bernabe-Verdin and Sergio Olivera on reaching an incredible milestone last week at the NIAA 5A Northern Regionals — earning their 100th career win! 💯🤼‍♂️

This is a feat that not many wrestlers ever achieve, and it speaks volumes about their dedication, discipline, and years of hard work on and off the mat.

The Hug Hawks Wrestling team just added 3 more athletes to our list of state qualifiers — marking the most Hug has qualified in a single year in over 15 years! 🔥

Congratulations to Sergio Olivera, Brian Bernabe-Verdin, and Aiden Navarro on punching their tickets to the big dance! We couldn’t be more proud of their performances, fueled by their tenacity, hard work, and dedication.

🟢🦅 HISTORY MADE 🦅🟢
What a moment for Hug Wrestling! This weekend marked a major milestone for our program as we crowned our first Regional Champion in over 20 years — and made school history with our first-ever Female Regional Champion at the NIAA Female Northern Nevada Regionals!

💪 Lady Hawks State Qualifiers:
• 145 lbs – Mirakle Hardaway 🥇 Regional Champion
• HWT – Mia Quiroz 🥉 3rd Place
• 105 lbs – Nicole Alvarez Reyes 🏅 5th Place (Alternate)

The Lady Hawks finished an incredible 8th place as a team, sending only 5 athletes into a field where many teams with much larger lineups finished behind us. That speaks volumes about the grit, heart, and preparation of these athletes.

We couldn’t be prouder of the Lady Hawks and the standard they are setting. Now the focus shifts to the NIAA Boys 5A North Regional Championships next week in Carson City, where we look to punch more tickets to the State Championships in Winnemucca.

The momentum is real. The culture is growing. The best is yet to come. 💚🖤
