🩶🦍💪🏻Teen class is leveling up in a big way! 💪🏻🦍🩶
Congratulations to Kaylee and Karis on earning their grey and white belts! These two have been putting in the work, showing up consistently, and it’s paying off in a huge way.
Belts aren’t given, they are earned. And both of you have proven that through your effort, discipline, and growth on the mats.
Keep showing up, keep learning, and keep pushing forward, we’re proud of you! 👏🏼🦍

This Memorial Day, the SBG Sparks family pauses to honor the men and women who gave everything for this country. Their sacrifice is the reason we have the freedom to gather, train, laugh, struggle, and grow together on these mats.
At SBG, we talk about loyalty, discipline, resilience, and tribe. Those values exist because generations before us stood the line for something bigger than themselves. Today we remember them.
From our tribe to all of yours… thank you to the fallen, the veterans, the active military, and the families who carry that weight every day.
One Tribe. One Vibe.
Never forgotten. 🇺🇸🦍

🦍We always love having guests on the mats! 🦍
When a guest not only visits, but steps in to coach, it brings a whole new energy to the room and elevates everyone’s learning.
This week we were lucky to have Black Belt James Walker lead Coach Ray’s classes on Monday and Thursday. Getting a different perspective on half guard opened up new ideas, details, and possibilities for everyone in the room.
Thank you, James, for spending the week with us! It’s always a great time having you at SBG Sparks and we’re already looking forward to the next one. 💪🏻🦍💪🏻

Longevity in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Part 1
Jiu Jitsu isn’t just a peak athletic sport it’s also a martial art and hobby that can be a healthy part of your lifestyle or it can be something that breaks you mentally and physically. The approach is important. If you’re 40+ and looking to do Jiu Jitsu for the long term here’s some tips.
1. Find an older coach who trains regularly and has older students who do the same. Don’t listen to the marketing BS on the internet that some 20 or 30 yr old is trying to sell you, if they aren’t doing it they can’t show you how to do it, it really is that martial arts are a way and if you don’t know the way you can’t guide others along the path. I’m really happy that over half way through my 40’s I can train 6 days a week, will I keep it up forever probably not but I’m confident I’ll be training and in the gym for a long while to come because I’ve listened to the advice of my coaches and concentrated on the fundamentals and refinement of technique and my overall health rather than a temporary “win” in a gym roll that means nothing. I’m even more happy that half of my many Black Belts are over 40 and that I have several who are over 60 and didn’t start training till they were in their 50’s. 40+ Jiu Jitsu is the new buzz word on the internet to sell you things but the reality at SBG is that for us this is a way of life we’ve been doing for decades and have been passing it on to others. The aging process is tough and there is no video series or single bit of advice that will get you what you want. But, what you need is a proven system and an environment that is designed to help you succeed as you age, so find a coach who has travelled the path, find an environment that makes what you are looking for, look around the gym if you want to be an older grappler - are their other grapplers in that gym who are where you want to be? training like you want to train?

The teens and Growing Gorillas stayed busy last week, and it showed on the mats!
Growing Gorillas packed the room on Tuesday and Thursday, even managing to outnumber the coaches. Energy was high, effort was real, and the work didn’t go unnoticed.
Growing Gorilla Samantha earned her second stripe through consistent attendance, focus, and putting in the reps with her teammates. Her jiu jitsu is improving every single class, and it’s awesome to watch her growth.
Mia earned her first stripe in Teens class on Monday night! In just a few short weeks, she’s already made a strong impression and become a great addition to the team. Keep showing up, staying coachable, and building momentum, we’re excited to see where this journey takes you!
Congratulations to you both!!! Let’s keep it rolling! 🦍💪🏻
