Ah yes, back-to-school season. The time of year when suddenly everyone has soccer four nights a week, volleyball three nights a week, dance, cheer, football, homework, birthday parties, and approximately 900 other commitments...

And horse practice is the thing that apparently needs to understand.

I completely understand that kids are busy. I'm not asking horses to be the only sport.

But we do have to be realistic.

You can't bring your kid to riding once a week, occasionally skip that, and then wonder why they're not progressing at the same rate as the kid riding 3-4 times a week.

You wouldn't tell the dance instructor, "We're gonna miss half the practices but we'd like her to be in the recital with with advanced kids."

Yet somehow horses get handed the leftover Tuesday night and we're expected to produce magic.

One lesson a week is absolutely enough if your goal is to enjoy horses, learn, and have fun.

But if the goal is to compete, progress quickly, and ride at a higher level, consistency matters.

Your trainer can't make up for the hours you're not here.

And really- just make your kids pick a dang sport. Maybe two. You can’t realistically give your all to multiple things. I dont know. Maybe I’m just irked. Sue me.

⭐️ISO⭐️
New Star Farm is looking to add two ponies and a horse to our lesson string. We have a rapidly growing lesson program in Central Texas.
Horses need to be able to teach little kids on the lunge line. Would also be great to move into an intermediate horse, teaching them steering, cantering and cross rails.
Would love to find a care lease for someone looking to lighten their board. Horse will be in a five star home. Program is quality of life and care driven.
Pictures of our rockstar school ponies in our program now. 🤩
Lease preferable, purchase depending on price.

Prince.
18 yr old German riding Pony gelding. Prince has been in my Barn now for a year and a half. He is the sweetest grumpiest old man. Will do anything from cross rails to 3 foot. (it’s been a while since he’s jumped that height.)
Prince came from the East Coast, where he was at a fox hunting barn in northern Virginia. He was First Flight with more advanced riders. Took children out on the Fox hunt. Has shown at WEC and Tryon.

Since he’s been here, he has taught a little girl how to canter and went to her first show doing cross rails. That being said, he is not for a beginner. This boy has a motor.
I would love for this boy to stay in my barn. Located in Spicewood, Texas.

The strongest horse and rider bonds don't come from the easy horses. They come from the relationships that get tested. The ones that would've been easier to walk away from. The ones that came with setbacks, frustration, tears, second guesses, and moments where neither side seemed to understand the other.

The horse that never scares you, never frustrates you, never challenge you, never makes you question yourself.... that isn't where you grow.

Some of the deepest bonds are built with the horses that make us grow.
The ones that expose our weaknesses. The ones that teach us patience.

The ones that force us to become better communicators, better riders, and sometimes even better people.

Relationships aren't built when everything is going right. They're built when things get hard and you choose to keep showing up anyway.

That's true for horses, and life.
