Cleveland Fargo Champions!

The Junior National Championships, what we now call Fargo, began in 1971. New Mexico waited until 1983 for its first Fargo National Champion. Since then, New Mexico has produced just 7 Fargo National Champions.

3 of those 7 are Cleveland Storm wrestlers!

2012 – Paul Mascarenas (1st & Only)
2025 – Roman Luttrell
2026 – Eloise Woolsey (1st & Only & OW)

What a way to wrap up Fargo 2026!

A huge congratulations to Audrey Layman and Chloe Bradley on making their first trips to Fargo and representing Cleveland Storm on the biggest stage in the country.

Audrey finished 1-2 with a win over Oklahoma, while Chloe went 3-2 with impressive wins over Utah, Ohio, and Iowa. Both have put in countless hours of work this spring and summer, and it showed. The experience they gained this week will only make them better, and we can’t wait to watch them compete this winter.

And then came history...

🏆 Eloise Woolsey is New Mexico’s first-ever Girls Fargo National Champion! 🏆

Eloise put together an incredible 6-0 tournament with wins over wrestlers from Georgia, Ohio, Iowa, Colorado, Connecticut, and New Jersey. She avenged previous losses along the way and finished her championship run by defeating a World bronze medalist in the finals.

As if winning a Fargo title wasn’t enough, Eloise was also named the Outstanding Wrestler of the Junior Girls Freestyle Tournament, recognizing her as the tournament’s top overall performer.

We couldn’t be prouder of the way Eloise represented our program and New Mexico on the national stage.

A special shoutout to Coach Borrego, better known as Coach Mac, for everything he does for not only our Cleveland girls program, but the entire Cleveland Wrestling family.

Coach Mac goes above and beyond every single day. He never looks for recognition or the spotlight. He simply loves wrestling, loves coaching, and loves helping athletes reach their goals.

The impact he’s had on this program can’t truly be measured. From the countless hours he puts in to the relationships he builds with our wrestlers, Coach Mac has helped shape the culture of Cleveland Wrestling in ways that will last for years to come.

Those of us who get to work alongside him see it every day, and anyone who has been around him knows exactly what kind of person and coach he is.

Thank you for everything you do, Coach Mac. We appreciate you more than words can say.

Congratulations to Coach Copeland on being named the 2026 USA Wrestling Freestyle Developmental Coach of the Year!

After earning the Regional Coach of the Year honor at Southern Plains in May, Coach Copeland has now received the National award! Becoming the first coach from New Mexico to earn this prestigious recognition.

Coach Copeland's passion for growing the sport of wrestling across New Mexico is unmatched. He consistently goes above and beyond to develop athletes, unite the wrestling community, and inspire excellence both on and off the mat. His leadership, dedication, and commitment have made a lasting impact on countless wrestlers and coaches throughout the state.

Congratulations, Coach! This recognition is well deserved, and we are proud to celebrate this incredible achievement.

Proud of Xzavier, Elijah, and Nathaniel for the way they competed at Fargo this past week. They put a lot of work all spring and summer, and it showed. More importantly, each of them made significant strides in their development.

Xzavier finished 1-2 in Freestyle, earning a win over Washington, and 3-2 in Greco, with wins over Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Arizona. He has been incredibly active this offseason, constantly looking for opportunities to compete and improve. Xzavier is only going into his freshman year, which makes his future even more exciting. We can’t wait to see all of his hard work carry over into the high school season.

Nathaniel finished 3-2 in Freestyle, with wins over Florida, New York, and Kansas, and 1-2 in Greco, with a win over Pennsylvania. This was Nathaniel’s second trip to Fargo, and he made a huge jump from last year. His commitment to getting better is second to none. His trip to Fargo alone says everything about his dedication, after flight cancellations, he flew into Minneapolis late at night and then took an Uber all the way to Fargo just to make sure he could compete. If you ever question how much Nathaniel loves wrestling, that story should answer it. We’re excited to watch him lead our team into his senior season.

Elijah finished 2-2 in Freestyle, with wins over Wisconsin and Minnesota, and an impressive 6-2 in Greco, defeating wrestlers from Iowa, Oregon, Utah, Georgia, Maine, and Missouri. He was just two rounds away from earning All-American honors and wrestled with confidence and toughness throughout the tournament. The work Elijah has put in this offseason is going to pay off, and he’s going to surprise a lot of people this winter. Great job, Elijah!

A big thank you to Coach Gomez and Coach Borrego for investing their time in these athletes, helping them prepare and coaching them in Fargo. We appreciate everything you do.

Proud of this group and the way they competed this weekend at the Adams State Summer Duals! They showed growth all weekend by applying things we’ve been working on in the room, staying coachable, and battling through adversity. That’s what summer wrestling is all about.

Great afternoon workout with Morenci, AZ and Mountain View Mesa, AZ! Huge thanks to Coach Woodall and Coach Anderson for making the trip over. We had some outstanding live goes this afternoon and every one took advantage of another opportunity to compete against high level competition.

This week we’ve had three of Arizona’s top high school wrestling programs in our room. We are grateful for the relationships we’ve built with these outstanding coaches and programs. Opportunities like these continue to push our wrestlers to grow and raise the standard every time they step on the mat.

Day 2 with the Sahuarita AZ and we got two great workouts in together today! A little technique, a lot of live wrestling, and a room full of wrestlers committed to getting better at wrestling.

We appreciate Coach Vasquez and the Mustangs for making the trip to Cleveland once again this summer. We always enjoy having them here, and our wrestlers benefit from competing against such a high quality program.

It’s no surprise they’ve won 5 state championships in a row! They put in the work, have great kids in their program, and they’re absolute monsters on the mat.

Grateful for the opportunity to learn, compete, and grow together.
