The Spokane Equestrian Center is a private horse training and boarding facility in SW Spokane, WA and recently under our new ownership! 1/2 mile from Spokane Sport Horse Facility on W Gibbs Rd.
Huge indoor, steel-framed arena, 56 indoor stalls, 5 outdoor stalls, 8 tack rooms, 2 outdoor arenas, 5 indoor tie stalls, washrooms, round pens, trails, dayroom, and more! We currently have 3 on-site trainers, (and have an opening for an additional trainer willing to add to the great community we have at the facility!) Our professional trainers are all independent contractors who use our facility at no charge as horse trainers and riding instructors, while conducting their business with boarded members.
[03/10/17] Can anyone recommend a good, fair-priced plumber?
nbhorsetraining.com Have you ever wondered what it is like to work as a horse trainer? It is an incredibly rewarding, but difficult job. Find out more in this week's blog!
Equine Herpes Virus most often manifests as its respiratory form, characterized by fever, watery nasal discharge and coughing. However, horses will occasionally contract a form resulting in neurologic signs. Horses with the neurologic form may have shown previous respiratory signs approximately two weeks beforehand or may have had no signs of illness. A fever, which may be as high as 105 F, precedes the neurologic signs but may not be noticed. The severity of neurologic disease can vary from mild unsteadiness to complete inability to stand. Key signs to watch for include dribbling urine, instability and weakness in the hindlimbs primarily, inability to move the tail, and lower limb swelling. Horses with mild neurologic signs generally make a full recovery. Unfortunately, horses that lose the ability to stand have a poor prognosis.
The virus is spread via respiratory secretions directly from horse to horse, or through contact with shared items such as water buckets, tack, and people. Signs of disease appear approximately 6 to 10 days post-exposure. Vaccines are available against the respiratory form and are quite effective in preventing disease or at least minimizing the severity. We do not currently have proof that vaccines prevent the neurologic form, although they may help reduce nasal shedding of the virus. We still strongly recommend that anyone attending shows vaccinates their horses against EVH and equine influenza every 6 months. Following standard safety practices such as avoiding contact with unknown horses, not sharing tack or feed/water buckets, and washing your hands after handling other horses are essential in preventing any contagious disease.
