Pilates band workout

I have some clients out of town and they requested three different videos with props they could do while gone. As always I am up for the challenge. This is the second video. I love working with the bands, they are one of the most versatile tools you can use in the Pilates studio. If you work with longer bands you have even more variety and can add a lot to your workout. Give this one a try. My YouTube video also has some skill-building shorter videos to teach you how to master some of the basic Pilates skills. My truth about the beach

Having a moment with my oldest son. The both of us sitting quietly staring out at the ocean.

I asked him, “do you know why people flock to beaches?“ He responds” to swim and be with the ocean”

I told him, I think people flock to beaches because it is one of the few places where you can feel all the elements. The ocean 🌊.......The sand 🌎which is the earth......The wind 🌬 and of course the sun our 🔥. The beach is one of the few places that you can go and feel connected to these elements.

Intuitively we are drawn to beaches, to these majestic and beautiful places. I think we need to spend this time and get connected. So as I sit here staring out at the ocean I am reminded that I am but one small soul on this enormous planet.

For some reason it comforts me and I am humbled but I also feel incredibly invigorated that we are all part of it, that we are all connected!! 🌎🌊🌬☀️

Pilates is hard!

Let’s define hard? Is is physically hard? Is it mentally hard? Is it the body mechanics? Is it the multi-tasking aspect?

Yes! It’s all the above.

Pilates is not just exercise. It really requires you to be present and focused. It’s a task master and you have to be up for it.

However...the benefits!!! A stronger core, a longer and leaner body. Not to mention overall health and well being.

It’s hard yes, but what worthwhile isn’t? What people learn along their journey is often more than what they expected. I see clients surprised every day at their own discoveries. As a Pilates teachers, we are always perfecting our instruction and our cueing, but what we ask our students to do doesn’t always come out as planned.... However, it’s fun to see how our words are interpreted and I enjoy watching what transpires into new action and movement.....My students might think they are doing things wrong but I like to think these are appropriate in the process of learning.....We all make choices everyday. Having confidence in what we do actually propels us forward. My client said this the other day and I couldn’t agree more. Why do twists keep us young? Well, most forms of exercise focus on Sagittal plane movements...this is forward and back. So things like running, hiking and most weight lifting. Even the classic sun salutation in yoga is on the sagittal plane. The body becomes bored in this plane. When we twist we create more dynamic movements and thereby switch things up, creating challenge and new awareness in the body. Just look at the DNA 🧬 strand, it is a spiral! We are built for multiple plane movement. This is what keeps us fresh and young. Today is the first day of my birth sign Gemini.
I’ve had this coffee mug for 16 years. I’ve often thought about getting rid of it...with its chip on the side, I’m always reminded of its imperfections,...but as I approach a milestone birthday this month, I’m reminded of my own imperfections, my flaws, my own chips per se. In Pilates we have a saying....”progress not perfection.”

Hamstring #3. This exercise gets harder the lighter you go with the springs. It’s a great full body exercise and it’s a hand balancing exercise in inversion. I’ve talked about how much I love inversions before....the change in perspective, blood moving into the head, even just looking upside down. However on this one, I also love the shape of the exercise. It creates a pretty picture and I often think of those high divers and how they pike so beautifully in the air. There is a beauty and elegance to this move which I like to embody....”the effortless effort” as I like to say. At home workouts.
I’m lucky I have my Pilates studio at home during this time. It’s quiet without my clients and I miss them but its great to see some of them on our virtual sessions.

What I’ve found during this isolation is a true space for me again, where I can play and explore.
It’s lonely and solitary yes, but there is immense growth at this time.

I’m in my own practice searching, expanding and learning all over again like a student.

Stress of a busy schedule and clients needs are gone. I’m just here in my own space, head, asking questions and challenging myself to be creative.
