When you pick up a well made self-bow, you’re holding both past and future adventure, stored in wood. The first curiosity of the craft.. The adventure of trekking off to the woods to find staves. The adventure of learning. The countless hours cutting, splitting and rasping and shaving and sanding and finally shooting. I first experienced this when I pickled up my friend Clay Hayes Osage selfbow back in 2014-15. It sparked an adventure for me, and a path that I am glad to have stayed on. Clay shared knowledge and wisdom around bow making with me and more importantly life, and a quote that sticks with me that he shared back then as we were driving to a Idaho Fish and Game cabin is a quote by Marcus Aurelius,“The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” There are many ways to interpret that saying, but my ever changing and growing perspective is to get after the process, the journey, the tenacity, the keep trying. that’s the whole point. The adventure.
My adventure has led me to taking my own bows and arrows around the world hunting and successfully taking animals with them. I am constantly learning and growing as a bowyer and hunter, and teaching to others what I’ve learned in this craft is what we do here at Big Rock Bows. . Start a custom bow today, or take a bow class, let me share my adventures with you.
