Meet the Leaf-Footed Bug. If youβve ever noticed random stippling or yellow spots on your produce, these little garden wreckers are likely the culprits!
That lighter-colored one in the middle? It literally just finished molting, you can actually see its old exoskeleton right behind it! π«£
Leaf-footed bugs molt about 5 times as they grow, shedding their outer skin each time to make room for their bigger, hungrier selves. We had the unfortunate privilege of catching it in action. π
They have a sharp, needle-like mouthpart to pierce your fruits and stems to drink the sap, leaving damage behind. While they aren't true stink bugs, they will release a foul-smelling odor if you disturb them!
