Moments after CrossFit Point Break owner Justin Stidham streamed a video showing his waterlogged affiliate in Spring, Texas, Marco Coppola, owner of CrossFit OverTake—less than 5 miles away from Stidham’s gym—texted him that he wanted to help.

That same day, Aug. 30, Stidham had over 60 people show up to help clean up his gym, which included members from CrossFit OverTake, Crossfit Redefined and CrossFit Conroe.

The CrossFit community—including affiliates, athletes and businesses from all over— have come together to help Harvey victims in the Houston area, which is home to roughly 140 affiliates.

Accepting full-time and part-time coach applications. We are looking for someone that has a passion for coaching, fitness, and people. This is for someone who is looking to make coaching a career, and has prior coaching experience, or sufficient education in the field.

Full-time coaching position includes annual potential salary pay anywhere from $20,000 - $40,000

Coaches must be able to teach the CrossFit methodology through smooth and effective classes, while ensuring a safe and fun environment.

Meet Gordon.

Gordon has been with us at OverTake about 2 years now. He is a regular in the afternoon classes at 4:30 and 5:30.

He is living proof of the results of persistence and hard work.

It may not have taken 3 months, 6 months, a year, or even a year and a half, but eventually things started to fall into place.

It wasn’t until recently until he re-discovered his WHY. It had always been there, but he decided he wanted to do something about it and make a change.

His WHY: “My wife and 2 girls.”

“I want my wife to be proud of who she stands next to in every aspect of our lives... I want to set a good example for my kids to lead a healthy and active lifestyle... I never want to have to think that if I miss something, it may have been because I didn’t put in all the work I could possibly have earlier on in life.”

After a few nutrition and lifestyle mindset changes, Gordon has lost 30 lbs in the course of about 6 months.

The biggest change for Gordon hasn’t been physical, but the mental change of how he approaches health the other 23 hours of the day outside the gym.

You’re an inspiration, Gordon. Keep up the good fight.

Humble Pie. 🍰

No matter how fit you are, the push ups in “Murph” are ALWAYS humbling.

All you have to do is sit back and eat that humble pie one bite at a time.

Hope everyone isn’t hurting too bad, and are being smart about taking the proper recovery measures this week.

Just remember, movement is the best form of recovery for sore muscles.

Blood flow: good. Sedentary: bad.

A short statement from Coach Matt and Coach Alex about the next couple weeks regarding COVID-19 and the gym.

“The biggest priority for us here in this community is health and safety. After much deliberation and consideration for our people here at OverTake, we have decided to temporarily close the gym, starting Wednesday, March 18th, through March 29th. We will reassess things over the next couple weeks, with plans to re-open March 30th, so that we may have a clearer view of things moving forward for this community.
-
We care for each and every one of you, and want to make sure that the decisions we make are reflecting your best interest. Our decision comes from being proactive about the situation, rather than getting caught sitting on our hands. It is better to be overly cautious for your safety, than be negligent and be the reason something happens to either you or someone you love.”

This is an incredibly hard decision that we have made with your best interest.

Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. Hope to see you guys back in the gym sooner, rather than later.

Pretty sure a crossfitter’s favorite thing to do is refer to the gym as “the bar.”

Get it? Because of the barbells..? We’re not actually going to a bar to drink, we’re going to the “barbell” to get fitter and healthier.

Nevermind.. you wouldn’t get it.

Anyways, it’s Monday!! Let’s freakin’ get after it this week, and leave the daylight savings excuses at home.

Make the time.

Not able to find the time in the craziness of the afternoon? Here’s a thought... what are you doing at 5:30 in the morning?

You can find a group of motivating and disciplined individuals here at OverTake who chose to make the time.

Trust me, I know how hard it is to wake up, but I promise once you make it here, it’s totally worth it.

If something is important to you, you will find a way to make it happen.

Make the time and prioritize yourself for just one hour of the day, even if it is at 5:30am. Your future self will thank you.

“Do what you can’t.”

"But wait... you just said the ‘c word’!"

First of all, calm down and keep reading. Secondly, no one likes a tattletale.

What I’m getting at here is to prove people wrong, even yourself; especially yourself.

When someone tells you that you can’t do something, have the relentless mindset to say “Oh yeah? Watch this.”

It may not happen over night, or in a month, maybe not even a year, but it’s the unrelenting pursuit of excellence.

Be better than you were yesterday, and prove yourself wrong. Have confidence in yourself and work hard, and I promise change will come.
