The WMA/HEMA Community in Springfield MO is thriving and growing every day. We blend the historical element with the modern day elements of HEMA.

We are one of several HEMA groups/clubs/associations/teams that call this city ,home. We have private classes available upon request and pending to our availability.

The best training programs fit around your sport. They don't ask your sport to fit around them! This is not the first time i've heard this story, of a personal trainer telling a client they need to pull back on their other activities outside the gym. Not because of an injury or time commitments. Not because a coach had concerns about overtraining. But because they are showing up sore. That immediately raises a (giant) red flag for me. For athletes, the sport is the priority. The gym exists to support the sport, not compete with it. If you're a boxer, the goal of strength training is to help you box better. If you're a fencer, the goal is to help you fence better. If you're a dancer, the goal is to help you dance better. Lifting a certain number of reps or kilograms is not the goal. Performance is. A good strength and conditioning program should improve the qualities that matter for your sport while leaving enough in the tank to actually practice that sport. Sometimes that means adjusting volume. Changing exercise selection. Even canning a planned gym session and focusing on recovery because the athlete is taking longer than expected to recover from the weekend tournament. What it usually doesn't mean is telling an athlete to do less of the thing they love so they can be better at lifting weights, or so it inconveniences the trainer less. Make sure your trainer understands your priorities. If they don't, find someone who does. 06/16/2026
