Today we scouted some new areas getting ready for the next buck to chase. We walked through thick areas. Searched around bedding areas trying to locate scrapes and big sign.

On this particular property it’s just a 50 acre tract. Grown up crp and ditches. We stayed out of the crp it’s head high and you wouldn’t gain anything by walking it. But we worked all the edges and ditches searching for sign.

We came across three big scrapes. We placed a camera and two hours later here you go. A dandy of a buck and daylight.

My point here to drive home is. I always get asked I’m I being too aggressive or are you going to blow deer out while scouting during season. So many people are afraid to put boots on ground in season and get aggressive and find a deer.

I can prove it time and time again. With smart access and working around the thick areas you can walk an entire property and not blow it out.

This buck is a prime example showing up just two hours after we scouted this whole property. Get out and go guys, find your bucks.

One month into my real estate career, and I’m excited to announce that I’ve helped my first buyer client find his forever hunting property!

For guys that run cameras don't get stagnate with your cameras. If they are not producing, you need to go scout and move them.

If you’re not getting your buck or bucks more than once a week, your cameras are doing you no good there.

I consider a good camera location if I get my buck a few times a week in that spot. Deer are moving every day. If you can't get him on cameras a few times a week, then you’re in the wrong area.

If you have the room to roam. Put boots on the ground. Go find new trails, scrapes, rubs, funnels or food sources and move those cameras.

Too many people place cameras and get stagnate with them. It's just like scouting. If I didn't run cameras. I'd be walking my places this week and scouting for scrapes and rubs near thick cover and placing my stands in these areas. Everything we do for whitetails and hunting mature bucks needs to be pre thought out. How I'm I going to get a shot next week when it's prime time. I'm going this week to scout for fresh sign and hunting that sign next week as it heats up..the same goes for cameras.

I have a farm I wasn't getting any pictures at my current camera locations. I took a walk the other morning and moved several of them. The next day I had photos of a mature buck. And this is after I walked the entire place looking for sign placing cameras.

Did I bump deer doing it, You bet !! But a walk in the woods a few times during season to scout and gain intel, isn't pressure that's going to hurt you. So get aggressive go scout, go move cameras now..!

If anyone is interested I’m going to add about 5 days from January to April for land consults or bedding and habitat work. The land consults are me showing up in person and we will walk your entire place. I’ll break it down and explain how the deer and mature deer will use it. I’ll teach you my techniques and how id apply them to your place and any other place you hunt. I’ll pick stand locations, access, trail camera locations and habitat improvements if needed. As far as habitat work we show up and create bedding areas with chainsaws. Cutting trees and hinge cutting. If this interests you feel free to reach out. We will travel just about anywhere.

Well Logan and I are on a roll. We head out for our first sit in Missouri and got it done on a buck we have been chasing for two years.

It started last year with this big 9 we thought was 5. I tried taking Logan out for him last year but we couldn’t make it work. This year logan has matured so much in the deer woods and it’s been a breeze.

Logan and I put the work in all summer for this buck. Hanging stands and moving cameras every two weeks. Last week we did our big scouting mission and really figured this buck out moving cameras to scrapes, travel corridors and new food sources.

The last three days the big 9 was daylighting an hour before dark. So today we slipped in. The buck did the same thing. He came out of his bedding area and worked 40 yards in front of us. A lot happened on this one. I dropped my range finder and the buck spun to take off. He made the mistake and stopped for a second to look back and that was all I needed.

It’s definitely been a lot of extra work making things happen bringing a 5 year old. But he’s learning so much from scouting to hunting it’s been worth the extra mile.

Now we have Wyoming mule deer in three weeks and an Iowa tag. Will see what we can make happen.

What’s next, well for many of you, your season will start October 1. In the past I’ve had several years of success opening week of Illinois when I used to live near there.

This time of the year so much changes. Acorns are dropping, corn is being cut. And green is fading. I always and still do some serious scouting this next week.

Right now bucks have shifted into thicker areas and are establishing their fall core. This means for you, get aggressive, go do some laps around the woods looking for rubs leading off food sources going into thicker better cover.

Try to find big scrapes within 100 yards of a transition area in the woods. Example you are following a trial and seeing rubs every 50 to 60 yards. Then all of a sudden the habitat changes, looks a little thicker or topo changes and you see a scrape. Stop starting looking for a tree to hang in and don’t push in much further your on the edge of bedding.

Also look for the obvious, heavy acorn droppings and scrapes around those areas. Fresh cut corn fields this time of the year are magical the first week. Move to those if you see this happening.

These are all things I’ll be doing this next week as I redeploy and try to find another buck to go after.
