Throwback Thursday to one of the greatest offensive linemen in Wittenberg history

Ron Cunningham ’96 was a cornerstone of the Tigers’ offensive line during one of the most successful eras in Wittenberg football, helping pave the way for a remarkable 35-5-1 record and two NCAC championships during his four-year career.

A three-year starting offensive tackle, Cunningham helped anchor offenses that ranked among the most productive in program history. The 1994 Tigers averaged more than 440 yards of total offense per game, while the 1995 offense finished second in Wittenberg history and rushed for 308.3 yards per game, the second-best single-season mark in program history.

Cunningham’s excellence in the trenches earned him three All-NCAC selections, including two First-Team honors. As a senior in 1995, he earned All-America recognition from three different organizations, cementing his place among the nation’s best Division III offensive linemen.

His accomplishments continued after his playing days, as Cunningham was selected to the NCAC All-Decade Team in 2004 and the NCAC 20th Anniversary Team before being inducted into the Wittenberg Athletics Hall of Honor in 2021.

Today, Cunningham continues to make an impact in Central Ohio as an Account Manager with Integrated Building Systems, while also serving as a mentor, speaker, author, and community leader.

Throwback Thursday to one of the toughest defensive linemen in Wittenberg history

Ron Szuch ’87 made his mark in the trenches as a starting nose tackle for the Tigers during the 1980s, bringing strength and physicality to the heart of the Wittenberg defense.

A Cleveland-area native, Szuch was recognized for his play on the field in 1986 when he was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week as a Wittenberg nose tackle.

But Szuch’s impact on Wittenberg extends far beyond his playing days. After graduating in 1987, he went on to build a successful career in the mortgage industry, founding Union Capital Mortgage Corp. in 1995. Today, he continues to serve as President and Senior Loan Officer, with decades of experience in residential lending.

Szuch has also remained deeply connected to his alma mater. He was appointed to the Wittenberg Board of Directors in 2017 and has played an important role in supporting the university, including leadership in the Health, Wellness & Athletics Restoration Expansion Initiative.

From anchoring the Tigers’ defensive line to helping shape the future of Wittenberg, Szuch has continued to embody the leadership and commitment that define a Tiger.
