St. Mary's Wrestling

The team finished 13th. Outstanding performances by our 5 qualifiers. Our place winners:
3rd Place - Audy Clark, 126 (junior)
4th Place - Aiden Timberman, 190 (junior)
4th Place - Lavell McCloud, 215 (sophomore)

District weekend results: 3 Tournament champions, 2 runner-ups. Team position - 4th of 17 teams.

To put it in perspective, first 16 years of wrestling at St. Mary's we've had 3 district champions. This year, year 17, three new district champions. Enjoy the moment, these 5 compete for the state championship starting Wednesday in CoMO.

Our mission - grow men of character. Pursue excellence as student-athletes. Three months in a row boys from the wrestling team have received recognition as Student-Athlete of the Month.

These 3 will lead the team as they compete in districts starting Friday at Kelly HS south of Cape Girardeau.

Last night we faced SLUH for senior night. We wrestled well, they just were the better team.

Varsity wrestled at Priory HS on Saturday and took 2nd place out of the 12 schools competing. Five boys earned 1st (most of any team) and 2 others took third. Thank you Scott Stubblefield for the fine photos. Next action Wednesday at St. Charles HS.

Last night the Dragons won two dual meets versus Lutheran St. Charles and Veritas Christian Academy. We celebrated the recent accomplishments of John La Plant and Gabe Harrer as they each have now won more than 100 matches as a Dragon.

Busy weekend with a JV dual tournament at Lindbergh and a multi-level tournament at Webster Groves.

Shout-out to Gabe Harrer achieving wins 99, 100, and 101 in his Dragon career while winning first at Webster.

Congratulations to Audy Clark, Kaleb Conner, John La Plant for also winning the Webster Groves varsity bracket. Way to Go Ashton Le for winning the 190B weight class at Webster Groves.

Wrestler of the week is freshman Jackson Fitzgerald. Jackson shows up every day including optional workouts - no surprise, he is becoming more competitive including winning a match at the Vianney varsity tournament.

Secondly, we were happy to have Leo Niyonizigiye and Mekhi Green come in to help the guys yesterday. Both grads from last year, help and bring energy to the mid-season "grind".
