The Knights took on the Urban Underdogs in the Over 50 'C' Championship Game on 5/27/26. The Knights were a bit short on defense and missing their leading scorer, Ron Walters, but the guys gave it their all in this tilt. Unfortunately, the 'Dogs brought their 'A' game and the Ole Knights had to 'make due' on defense and took the loss 5-2.
Tim Broemmer scored at 5:50 left in the first to get the 'Dogs off to an early lead. Broemmer did it again for the 'Dogs, scoring at 13:40 in the second and Mike Griffin scored for the 'Dogs again at 11:50 left in the second, making it Underdogs 3, Knights 0. A switch on defense for the Knights, bringing Shawn Bogener back to 'D' in place of Steve Milburn, helped solidify the defense...
The change seemed to bring some renewed energy to the Knights, with Tim Mulder scoring at 8:00 left in the second on assists from John 'Killer' Schlueter and Steve Milburn. Yuhang Sun then scored on an assist from Justin Lopinot at 1:20 left to make it 'Dogs 3, Knights 2 at the end of period number two.
Well, the Underdogs weren't about to let the Knights back into the game, with third period tallies by Birkenmeir and Verbeck to make the final Underdogs 5, Knights 2.
We'll get them next session, boys!

The Knights took charge right from the start, tallying three goals in the first: T.J. Delaney (unassisted); Matt Gallina (unassisted); and Adam Natzke (T.J. Delaney).
Second period action saw the Crows Wachter put one in the basket, while Matt Gallina, Kyle Bauer, and Natzke all scored unassisted for the Knights.
The Crows put up a couple of goals in the third by Baumgart and Curran, while the Knights continued on their torrent of scoring, adding tallies by Justin Lopinot (assisted by Dave Brawley), and by Patrick Brawley (unassisted).

Catching up on Ole Knights game scribing... The Ole Knights played the Urban Underdogs on May at Creve Coeur in an Arch Over 50 contest. In a low scoring game, the Knights prevailed 3-2 over the 'Dogs.
The first period saw the Knights break out on top with a goal by John 'Killer' Schlueter at 11:00 left in the first, assisted by Justin Lopinot. A minute later, the 'Dogs Dale Hankey scored, unassisted. Justin scored again for the good guys, assisted by Ron Walters at 5:10 left in the first, making it Knights 2, 'Dogs 1.
Tim Mulder got things going for the Knights with a goal at 11:50 left in the second, assisted by Steve Milburn and Steve Wild. Tim Jones then scored for the 'Dogs at 4:30 left in the second...
Lots of great effort by the defense and goaltending by D.J. Fischer, but the consensus decision was to award Excalibur to John 'Killer' Schlueter for his goal and all around effort! Way to go, Killer!

Break out the champagne! Or, in this case the Moosehead, LaBatts, and Molson for the HNA C3B Champion St. Louis Knights! The final game was an intense battle between two good teams that ended in an OT victory for the Knights!
Needless to say the Knights were carried to this Championship on the back of excellent goaltending by Bradley Fields, turning away 32 of 33 shots on goal, and solid defense from veterans Chris Marshall, Dale Rossan, Rick Whitmore, and Rookie Jackson Meyer. The Knights scored one goal in regulation, by Ron Walters, assisted by Tim Mulder at 13:52 left in the first, while the 'Nooks netminder "Spare Goalie" stopped 27 of 28 in regulation...
The Nanooks scored on a breakaway in the second by Adam Radetic at 14:23 left in the period. From then on out, there was no scoring in regulation. Observers stated that the Nanooks may have out-skated the Knights, but the good guys managed to prevent any further scoring from the 'Nooks.
The third period saw more serious back checking from the Knights, with many excellent scoring chances turned away by "Spare Goalie" (maybe we should have had a 'roster check' before the game?). Meanwhile, Bradley turned away all Nanook scoring chances.
The overtime period saw intense action in both ends, but Joe Meyer finally put it away for the good guys off of a rebound shot from Rick Whitmore!
In the post-game excitement, Excalibur stayed in its sheath as all Knights enjoyed post game beverages from the HNA Cup!
Congratulations, boys on a great season!!!

The Knights played the Nanooks in an HNA second round playoff game April 20th at the fabulous Ice Zone. The Nanooks came to play and brought their local rulebook to ensure the Knights would oppose them with one less player... As the game was ready to begin, The Nanooks challenged the Knights rostered player, Justin Lopinot, for not having played six HNA regular season games. Knights GM was unaware of this rule (as no such rule was distributed in writing to the league captains...) but was in no position to protest. So, Justin watched the game from the sidelines as the boys battled the 'Nooks in this playoff contest.
The first period was a defensive struggle, with both teams being held to minimal shots on goal (Nanooks 5 SOG, Knights 6 SOG). The Knights defenders, Steve Trefts, Dale Rossan, Jackson Meyer, Chris Marshall, and David Levy held the 'Nooks from scoring any shots from the slot or from the 'greasy' areas in front of All Star Goaltender Bradley Fields.
The second period opened up a bit, with Chris Marshall taking a pass from Rick Whitmore and scoring at the 6:29 mark left in. the second. Jackson Meyer tallied a gino with an apple from Tom Goedeke at 2:44 left in the second to make it good guys 2, 'Nooks 0.
Let it also be said that the Knights back checking, especially from Eric Baggstrom, was relentless, holding Division leading scorer Chris DeBolt to few scoring chances. As the third period opened, the Knights showed grit and determination to shut this tough opponent down. The Nanooks had nine shots on goal in the third period, but one more tally for the Knights by Ron Walters from Dave Delaney at 1:01 iced it for the Knights.
Bestowing Excalibur for outstanding performance and relentless grit becoming a Knight of the Round Table could have gone to any number of players. Baggstrom for his two-way play; Bradley Fields for his shutout; or the Knights defenders for keeping 'the house' clean from the Nanook offense.
While all were worthy, Excalibur was awarded to the Knights defense for outstanding play and being all around good guys.
The Over 50 Knights met Mellow Yellow in an Over 50 league contest March 22nd at Creve Coeur. To say this was a case of the Knights leaving our goaltender, DJ Fischer 'defenseless' would be an understatement, as the Yellow took advantage of lapses in our zone, including an 'accidental' own goal by Mellow Yellow.
The Knights were trailing throughout the first period battled back on the strength of Ron Walters netting four tallies, tying the score at 4-4 in the second period. Whether it was the good guys 'running out of gas' or just sloppy play, the Knights couldn't sustain the momentum and dropped the game 8-5.
Nice notes: Shawn Bogener's relentless efforts led to a third period goal, and only one Knights hockey stick was broken in frustration...
Excalibur was nowhere to be found... Perhaps the mighty sword will make an appearance next game.
The Division Regular Season Champion Knights took to the Fabulous Ice Zone ice to play an inter-divisional game against the Pirates on April 7th. The Knights, resplendent in their new "Knights Blue" sweaters played with a short bench, as several players were out with injuries and schedule conflicts. Despite the short bench the boys gave the C3A Division Pirates all they could handle...
Ron Walters started the scoring for the Knights with an unassisted goal at 13:39 left in the first. The Pirates Andrew Vonfleldt countered with an unassisted tally at 2:29 left in period number one, making it Knights 1, Pirates 1.
The second period saw lots of back'n'forth action, with both teams stingy giving up shots on goal (Pirates 6 SOG, Knights 5 SOG). Jackson Meyer finally broke the scoring drought on a gino with apples from Dad Joe Meyer and Steve Milburn. Good guys 2, Pirates 1 at the end of two.
The Pirates weren't going to let the Knights off the 'hook' so easily (pun intended...) with Paul Henderson scoring from Vonfeldt and Patrick Bishop at 5:47 left in the third. Ron Walters closed scoring out with an unassisted goal at 1:59 left in the third to make the final score Knights 3, Pirates 2.
Stellar goaltending by HNA All Star Bradley Fields and solid defense by two-way players Tom Goedeke and Eric Baggstrom helping anchor the defense with regular D-men Chris Marshall and Jackson Meyer kept the Knights in the game.
HNA All Star Ron 'Boom-Boom' Walters was all over the scoresheet with two goals and two penalties (Just one assist away from the HNA 'Hat Trick'), and relentless, though sometimes chaotic play from Knights forwards kept the good guys in the game from start to the final buzzer...
Excalibur was nowhere to be found as it appears to have been on the dinner circuit with former Pirate David Levy and making the rounds as a prop in a Promposal with the Chris Marshall family... I think the mighty sword will be back for the playoffs!
The Ole Knights took to the ice against familiar foe the Urban Underdogs in an April 1st (No fooling!) contest at the Creve Coeur Ice Arena. The game was typified by strong goaltending by DJ Fischer, who posted a shutout for the good guys and timely scoring from the Knights defense and forwards.
Chris Marshall got things going for the Knights with an unassisted gino in the first with 12:10 left in the period. Jason Bergfeld added his own gino, with an apple from Stephen Clark at 5:00 left in the first. End of one: Knights 2, 'Dogs 0.
The second period saw a nice backdoor pass to Steve Milburn from Tim Mulder to make it Knights 3, Underdogs 0. The third period saw numerous chances for both sides, but the goaltenders were stingy allowing no additional goals.
Both teams adjourned to the parking lot to debrief the game with Underdog Tom Goedeke supplying the beverages. Thanks, Tom!
In the words of veteran netminder DJ Fischer about the Ole Knights Over 50 Contest March 25 vs Urban Chestnut at Creve Coeur "...the less said, the better!" The Ole Knights were running a little short on players and Urban Chestnut took full advantage scoring nine times to the Knights 1, a tally by Ron Walters in the first period, assisted by Shawn Bogener.
