Being located in has lots of perks, best among them, the art! 🖼️✨
When you step out of the elevators into LSAC, you’re greeted by works from internationally known artist . Skateboard decks from the artist’s “Monkey Train” series inspire athleticism and whimsy while reflecting on popular culture and consumerism. The bright, smiling monkey face images depict details similar to life-like inflatable sculptures often created by Koons. Presented here over Pop Art-inspired, high contrast, screen printed newspaper images of trains, these pieces are similar to iconic artworks by Andy Warhol. Like Warhol, Koons’ artworks are printed in multiples and sometimes produced commercially, increasing accessibility and blurring the distinction between art and consumer culture.

Charles Edward Williams’ self portrait, “Swim II”, is from a series entitled “Self”. The series explores the artist’s emotional relationship with water, revealing a deep dive into the trauma regarding his thalassophobia, or fear of the ocean, as a drowning survivor. Due to the subject matter, the sheer white background appears to represent harsh sunlight with areas of the image obliterated. These ephemeral qualities are countered by the strength of the artist’s features and form, as he raises his brightly colored water wings and adjusts his goggles perhaps preparing to enter the water.
