Happy Global Running Day! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ”

Nine years ago, I started running for health and spite (long story). I never could have imagined the places it would take me, the people I would meet, or that I'd eventually be celebrating it dressed as a squeaky chicken.

One of the things I love most about running is that it can be whatever you need it to be. Therapy. Competition. Community. Adventure. A reason to get outside. A way to challenge yourself. Or simply a chance to have fun.

Today, I want to celebrate every runner:
πŸƒ The person training for their first 5K
πŸƒ The marathoner chasing a PR
πŸƒ The track athlete doing speedwork
πŸƒ The trail runner exploring new places
πŸƒ The runner who took a walk/run break today
πŸƒ The person thinking about starting

There is no pace requirement. No distance requirement. No "runner look" requirement.

If you run, you're a runner. ❀️

πŸ‘‡ Tell me in the comments:
Why do you run?

And if you're not a runner yet, what's stopping you?

It is no secret that I have taken a too-long break from speed work. I just haven't had the drive to get out there and get it done, to be honest. I do have a key race coming up (Peachtree), and I am okay with adjusting my expectations given where my training has been so far this block, but I finally feel like I am coming out of the fog. I finally got myself out to the track and got it DONE. I'm only slightly behind where I was at this time last year, so my overall fitness has improved since then. We'll see how June goes, and maybe, just maybe, I won't need to change my goals. I'm ready to work hard and get out there!

I decided I need an extra push, so I signed up for the Big River Running summer speedwork. I won't make it to every practice (I have a few conflicts), but I will make it to most of them! It will be nice to meet some people who have similar goals and see how far we can push ourselves and each other!

Thanks for putting on a really cool and free speedwork series Big River!

37 mile cycling adventure = accomplished πŸš΄β€β™€οΈπŸ·πŸ

We rode out to Defiance Ridge Vineyards for lunch and wine… which meant:
β€’ Crossing bridges
β€’ Climbing the giant hill to the vineyard πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«
β€’ Making up completely ridiculous songs about biking to food the entire way πŸŽΆπŸ˜‚
β€’ Seeing the swans
β€’ Meeting their new cat, Cheddar 🐈
β€’ And then somehow biking 18 miles home on a full belly

BUT the real highlight might have been the HUGE snake we spotted on the way back 🐍

What the video does NOT show:
I got so excited trying to stop and film it that I tangled myself up getting off the bike and completely fell over with the bike still attached to me πŸ’€πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ

Honestly? Worth it.
Cool snake > dignity.

This ride basically had everything:
beautiful views, cardio, chaotic songs, wine, animals, and accidental slapstick comedy.

πŸ‘‡ Important question:
Would you rather:
🚴 bike 37 miles for food and wine
OR
🐍 See a giant snake in the wild?

Because apparently I’m willing to do BOTH πŸ˜‚

Week 31 of the Squeaky Chicken Mile was at the St. Louis Track Club Member Appreciation 1 Miler πŸ”πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

There was also a 5K (video is already up), a cookout, and LOTS of cheering! Also, LOTS of jokes about serving chicken πŸ—πŸ˜‚

Honestly, this run was the perfect reminder of why I keep doing this every week.

Running can be competitive.
It can be stressful.
But it can also be ridiculous, supportive, and genuinely fun.

People were laughing, cheering, and making jokes; the kids had fun with the Duke of Squeakingham (the rubber chicken I carry); and we all enjoyed the event together! That’s the kind of energy I love bringing with the Squeaky Chicken Mile. πŸ’—

Also… my watch said the course came up short, so naturally I just kept running past the finish line until it finally hit a mile πŸ˜…πŸ”βŒš

Because if I’m doing a Squeaky Chicken Mile… It’s gonna be a FULL mile.

And yes, the mission continues:
πŸ” I will keep doing this until ChicknLegs makes a squeaky chicken pattern outfit. πŸ”

πŸ‘‡ Comment question:
Would YOU trust the race course… or trust your watch and keep running past the finish too? πŸ˜‚

They're backkkkkkkk. It is hill repeat season. Starting with 15 reps on this .15 mile hill with an average 5.5% grade. Coming back to these hurts, and this is the smaller hill πŸ˜… I do love to hate it!

This week’s mile was the kickoff fun run for the Run It Back Track Club season, starting and finishing at Big River Running Company πŸ‘Ÿ

One of the coolest things about this club is that it’s open to ANYONE:
β€’ Want to train? Come out.
β€’ Want to race track events? Come out.
β€’ Fast, slow, beginner, experienced, everybody’s welcome.
β€’ Accepting of silly shenanigans πŸ”πŸ˜‰

That’s honestly a huge part of why I keep doing the Squeaky Chicken Mile every week.

Running should be FUN.
Not intimidating.
Not something you feel like you have to β€œlook like a runner” to do.

If someone sees a person running around in a squeaky chicken suit and thinks:
β€œOkay… maybe I can show up too.”
…then the mission is working πŸ”

And of course, I’m still campaigning for one very important thing:
πŸ”₯ ChicknLegs needs to make a squeaky chicken pattern outfit πŸ”₯

πŸ‘‡ Question for the comments:
If you had to race a track meet in ONE ridiculous outfit… what would you choose? πŸ˜‚

Week 29 of the Squeaky Chicken Mile took me back to Creve Coeur Lake πŸ”πŸŒŠ
Different section this time… and somehow it turned into the most musical mile yet πŸ˜‚

The second half of the run basically became a soundtrack.
Completely relevant songs kept popping into my head one after another, so enjoy a musical second half 🎢

We also stopped for some photos along the lake, checked out the views, and spotted a docked boat 🚀

And honestly, that’s exactly why I keep doing these runs.

Running is hard enough already.
If dressing like a squeaky chicken, exploring cool places, and turning runs into goofy little adventures make it more fun… then why not?

Plus, this mission is still active:
πŸ” ChicknLegs needs to make a squeaky chicken patterned outfit. πŸ” ChicknLegs

Every week, I continue the campaign until it happens.

πŸ‘‡ Question for the comments:
What’s the weirdest song that’s ever gotten stuck in your head during a run or workout? πŸ˜‚πŸŽΆ

Week 28 of the Squeaky Chicken Run brought me to Lake Olathe Park πŸ”πŸŒ²

Honestly… this might be one of the prettiest parks I’ve run through yet.

This place has:
β€’ An outdoor musical instrument park 🎢
β€’ A giant chair πŸͺ‘
β€’ Beautiful streams
β€’ Amazing lake views 🌊

And somehow all of that became the backdrop for a person running around in a squeaky chicken suit πŸ˜…

That’s kind of the whole reason I keep doing this.

Running can start to feel repetitive after you do it long enough, so I try to turn every run into an adventure, finding new places, having funny moments, and making people smile along the way.

And of course…
I’m still running like this until ChicknLegs finally makes a squeaky chicken outfit πŸ”πŸ”₯

Every week, the mission continues.

πŸ‘‡ I need your opinion:
What was the coolest part of this park?
The giant chair? The music area? The lake views? Or just the fact that a chicken showed up there at all? πŸ˜‚

Let me know in the comments!

This past weekend, I ran the Saint Louis Track Club Member Appreciation 5k! It was super fun, and a great excuse for me to finally make it out to Tower Grove Park! The park is so nice and green, the pavilions look very ornate, as if they're rather old, but they have been restored, and the squirrels are BUSY right now! After the 5k and 1 mile, there was a cookout, and it was a great time for everyone! I highly recommend checking it out, even if you live further out like me. You better believe I did the 1 mile in the chicken suit! I have been happening upon so many 1-mile runs, I am getting ahead on chicken miles πŸ˜… so it'll be a few weeks until you get to see it πŸ‘€it is coming though!

2nd woman, 9th overall. Not bad for being a week out from the Olathe Marathon and admittedly not doing any speed work for awhileeeeee 😬 I need someone to come and make me do it. IDK why it just has not been it for me lately lol

Oh and of course I was rocking my ChicknLegs animal crackers.

Onto the next adventure!
