Here is how:The Mascogo Community: Black Seminoles fled U.S. slavery and found freedom in Coahuila, Mexico, where slavery was already abolished.El Día de los Negros: Since the 1870s, their descendants have celebrated Juneteenth in Mexico as a massive annual holiday.The Annual Cabalgata: The village of Nacimiento marks June 19th with a traditional 20-mile horseback parade and Afro-Mexican food.The Southern Underground Railroad: Thousands of enslaved Texans escaped south across the Rio Grande with the help of Mexican allies.Afro-Latino Legacy: Today, Juneteenth is a vital moment to honor the shared global history of Black and Afro-Latinx liberation.

Afro-Latin Juneteenth Movement Workshop

Join us for a special Juneteenth Afro-Latin Dance Workshop celebrating the African roots and cultural connection woven throughout Latin dance and music. This 2-hour experience will focus on body isolations, Afro-Latin movement, musicality, rhythm, and intentional body movement that brings power, confidence, and expression to your dancing.
During the workshop, dancers will:
Learn foundational Afro-Latin body movements and isolations
Explore rhythm, grounding, and movement flow
Build confidence in movement and musical interpretation
Apply the techniques learned into choreography
Finish by learning and performing a high-energy Afro-Latin routine
This workshop is open to all levels and is designed to help dancers connect deeper to the culture, history, and movement behind Afro-Latin dance styles while having an empowering and fun experience.
