We were recently made aware that St. Liborius church and rectory were added to the city’s demolition list. Yesterday we were contacted by a local news outlet regarding the city’s plans to demolish St. Liborius church and rectory. Unfortunately, we had not received any prior notice of this, and have since shared all the necessary paperwork to get us off this list, as well as shared our plans to rebuild after the fire. It has also been confirmed by the office of cultural resources and preservation board that the church can be saved.
Over the past three years, our dedicated, and volunteer-led board of directors have been working to secure, clean, and maintain our property, while simultaneously planning for stabilization and a rebuild - which will take time. We are working on fundraising, applying to grants, and taking the necessary preliminary steps to rebuild. We’ve met and listened to our neighbors, we will continue to work with them throughout the rebuild, we understand this has been a long and arduous process - and that no one wants to live next to a burned out building.
We refuse to give up on this beautiful historic building that so many local youth and young adults have come to know and love over the past 13 years. After the fire we had to start over from scratch. All of these things take time and money but we have not given up! We are not going anywhere and neither is Sk8 Liborius!
