Consistency ...

With daily weather changes and people feeling on and off, one thing I love about the equipment is its consistency.

Especially the Reformer.

On a day I don't feel great I can get on the Reformer, go through a foundational series, and know it's going to help get things centered and put back together.

Thankful for all these years together with my trusty Reformer ✨️

Slowing it down ...

I've practiced sound meditation twice now and have learned so much.

Most importantly - it's so hard for me to slow down.

Everything in life now is quick ... quick decisions, quick meetings, quick emails, quick phone calls ....

Even though I consider myself mindful, I still can be 'quick' in my mindfulness and move to the next thing/idea/task.

Teaching classes today felt a little different bringing this concept in while I taught.

As instructors, we always try to practice what we preach ... but sometimes it's easy to get into "teaching mode' (...for me at least...).

So even though I may have used my same instructions today, I tried to feel the difference in coming at it a little slower, rather than rushing.

Kind of a fun experiment.

If you want to try slowing it down on your own, try to take 3-5 deep breaths taking as long as you possibly can ....

Taking as long as you can to inhale, holding it for a moment ..
Then take as long as you can to exhale, breathing out every last bit of air, and then pausing for a moment before the next inhale.

See what you feel.

Breathe | MOVE | Change ....

Earlier this year I brought up the idea of looking at the entire year to generate shifts in your routine.

Taking a second to breathe, not pressure ourselves to completely transform our life in the first week of January, and then focusing on what FEELS good ... rather than what we think we need or should do to our bodies.

So now, we take what we've noticed and felt and start to MOVE.

..maybe it's challenging yourself to a harder workout.
..maybe it's going out for a walk since the weather has shifted.
..maybe it's finally trying something new that you've been anxious about - and the mental game has been debilitating - so now you're ready to move on that next step of what that might look like.
..maybe, you move to ask at the beginning of a group class about a question you've had about classes or something you'd like to work on.
..maybe you got really excited to move with garden and house work and then did a little too much - so you find restorative ways to move.

Movement means so many things.

What is important we remember change is constant - therefore movement is part of the deal.

So....

How do you want to move through the day to day?

How do you want your body to feel and respond to the changes of each day?

Best part - you get to choose.

And you can always start with taking a deep breath.

Athletic Reformer 5 week series ...

Join Emily Murnin for a 5 week series of her popular Athletic Reformer class.

This series will focus on progressing a group of 6 clients. With a focus on strengthening using the Reformer, weights, and other Pilates props, this series will challenge you differently than your typical class.
