Have kids track the temperature, clouds, rain, and wind for one week and see what changes.

Save this for the next meltdown — three things that actually work better than "calm down."

1. Get down to their eye level before you say anything.
2. Name what they're feeling instead of telling them to stop feeling it.
3. Give them one small choice, so they feel back in control.
