That's right. If your calorie intake exceeds your calorie output you'll never shed fat. It took me years to realize this and it was actually a wise young man by the name of Jake who said those exact words to me some years ago. Figuring out maintenance calories, calorie expenditure, calories needed isn't beyond anyone's ability to figure it out.
There are many places to go to get the tools to make it easy enough to get a handle on the "formula"

Not sure what a micro/macro is or what are The Dirty Dozen are? Talking to a nutritionist/dietitian such as Mary Ann @ can be very useful too.

Just 10 months after my mastectomy I deadlifted 200 #!!! Here is my story.
In September 2013, one month before I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, (James) and I started working with a personal trainer, (Jake). Unbeknown to me, it turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. I trained with Jake right up until my surgery date in December 2013, in fact I did cardio the morning of my surgery.
I was cleared to go back to work in January 2014. I was never more happy to be cleared to return to the gym, without any restrictions; in fact my doctor said "GO FOR IT, and don't hold back". Once I returned, knew exactly how to train me, and pushed me further than I ever would have pushed myself if I hadn't had him as my trainer. We worked on so many things to strengthen my body, but this 200 # deadlift was my personal best completed in September 2014. I never would have thought that this moment in time would turn out to be one of my proudest moments. Just 10 months after my mastectomy I deadlifted 200 #!!!
I thank God first, then my husband who was by my side every step of the way, my father who drove me to radiation treatments every morning for 36 days, every doctor that I was led to, and my family and friends that helped me through one of the toughest times of my life.

As Breast Cancer awareness month winds down, I thought I would share this Proverb. It resonates with me so much that it is on the wall in our home gym. I have the strength to fight and the will to live a full and happy life without fear of the unknown.
