In order to master a skill, you have to be able to execute and be successful regardless of the surrounding challenges.
In the case of high level shooters, it’s a game plan that will not allow you to shoot any easy threes. If all you can do is make the threes that are easy- normal footwork, no defender chasing you, no contest, no momentum to control, etc, that’s a huge problem.
So you’d better be able to hit the tough ones or else you’re going to be a victim to the game plan.
If you watch any elite shooter who shoots a lot of threes off the catch: Klay Thompson, Joe Harris, Duncan Robinson, Buddy Hield, etc, you’ll see exactly what is required to be an elite level shot maker.
Right here we’re working on the ability to be adaptable shot to shot with different footwork. Staggered, wide, narrow, anything but normal. And having a “go” call adds a level of randomness and reaction to it that you’ll also be required to have in a game.
If you want to be an elite shot maker, you have to train to be one. Which means being able to knock down shots regardless of imperfection and difficulty.

SELF TALK, CONFIDENCE, AND PERFORMANCE💎
Basketball is such an emotional game. And because of that, it’s so easy to let negative things become overwhelming.
Generally when that happens, it all starts because of negative self talk. And negative thoughts usually lead to negative outcomes.
In a game that is so emotional, it can be hard to fix this problem. But it all starts with first being able to recognize when your self talk is negative.
The next step is “replacing” those thoughts with positive, reassuring statements.
Identify➡️Replace
This is a little weird and will feel unnatural at first, but as you do it more, it becomes a habit.
And every little bit helps. The more positive you are with yourself, the more likely you are to see positive results on the court! New podcast episode is live! I go through why you need to have “irrational” confidence to be the best player you possibly can be and exactly how you can develop this mentality! Link in my bio!

Some summer pics that I’m finally getting around to posting with the winter season starting today😭
There’s nothing I value more than these relationships and the opportunity to be a part of the development of the players I’m around. It’s something I’m so grateful for.
This off-season was amazing and there was so much progress made.
Now the fun part starts…I can’t wait to watch🤝

ISAIAH THOMAS AND DECEPTION🔑
A quick film study for your Saturday night👀
It seems like IT got signed to a G-League team, dropped 42 points, then played a game for the Lakers and had 19 points all within about 48 hours (which is almost the case).
Being undersized, IT has to find ways to freeze defenders so that he can use his quickness to his advantage and negate the size disadvantage he always faces.
And he’s phenomenal at using shot fakes and pass fakes to do just that. You’ll notice that this is especially effective as soon as he catches the ball while the defender is still closing out to him.
This can really be a game changer if you’re good at using fakes to your advantage as you can rely freeze defenders and create driving opportunities. And this is an even more crucial skill if you’re undersized!
