Leaders tend to lock into positions rather than adjust to the operational environment. Some out of desperation, will embrace a radical faction to boost their elections, in a ends-justify-the-means sort of way. The problem with the New Right is their populist and nationalist approach to marketing Fascism and neo N**i ideology and entertainment focused news sources like Fox network wanting to boost viewership by embracing these people that want to destroy democracy in favor of tyranny. Not all of the far right are aware of this and instead view the governments role as one of hands-off the market. The problem here, is that it doesn't work, historically. Policies and approaches have led to the Great Depression, the Great Recession and very short, steep economic bubbles. John McCain, Mitt Romney and other prominent Republicans have warned against populism and the New Right, Far Right policies of hands off. Instead, Leaders need to focus on the operational environment and what is needed at the moment.

Leaders tend to get bogged down into 1 position in order to brand themselves or define what they believe in. In politics there is a conservative faction in both parties, but they too ignore the needs of the operational environment to fixate on ideology. The problem with the New Left is that they latched on to New Deal Economics and European style socialism of post WWII. Well, there are problems with both that are well documented in peer reviewed journal articles by world renowned economists. Also, historically, too much socialism collapses empires, most famously the Han Chinese dynasty. Rather than admitting to these problems and fixing them, the Left just digs in and ignores the problems. There is a repetitive economic cycle and each change requires a different response. JFK famously said "ask not what your country can do for you..." with intent on raising taxes, he instead cut them in response to the economy. George Bush said "read my lips, no new taxes" then launched new taxes to lower the deficit in response to economic need of the moment.

Ukrainian President Zelensky has emerged as a surprisingly good crisis leader, so far. He is faced with a Russian invasion using the outdated Blitzkrieg tactics, which failed. However, his response is a call for a traditional response of more tanks, and jets. He is in a nonlinear asymmetrical confrontation and needs to embrace this reality if he wants to win. Leaders need to be adaptable and responsive to their operational environments, not just go with their instincts or what has worked for them in the past.

Putin's unforgiveable invasion, and destruction of Ukraine is a historical wrong. While his stated "provocation" was an aggressive NATO and EU, his actions in response to peace attempts show that his true motivation was greed and power. The first one to violence in a conflict is usually the loser, and Russia is losing in a big way. Trump did the same thing with Jan 6. The reasoning he gave was simply a lie, and his true motives were power and greed. These types of authoritarian leaders surround themselves with yes-men and only want information that bolsters their beliefs. Leaders of Corporations, local governments, school boards, small businesses, and charities can fall for this trap as well.
