Make sure to read/swipe to the end:
1st pic: I made a mess. Again. I know...
2nd pic: modded my new work rest. Got tired of thin things getting sucked in and wedged between the plate and the belt. Going to have to make quick release something for where it's attached tonthe arm though, so I can change belts without busting out the ratchet everytime.
3rd pic: the puukko I made while teaching my son to make his. Had to test the new work rest, so indid a quick scale removal grind
4&5: had to set up my new printer to print what will be a menpo mask for sons (same son that wants to forge actually) Halloween costume.
And lastly, hopefully you swiped/read this far: The g10 I ordered, lined up with the blue carbon fiber. Now, the color of the carbon fiber isn't quite as dark as in the picture. It has a bit more "ice" tone to it, maybe sky blue is better. That said, let's take a vote and pick which g10 spacer you want for the carbon fiber. I'm leaning towards yellow, maybe orange. Either, let's continue the voting fun for the giveaway knife.
****Thanks for all the new followers btw, I see you trickling in. If you don't know yet, I'm making and giving away a knife when I reach 500 followers here on IG. So, stick around, like stuff, and share with friends!

*GIVEAWAY KNIFE*
I CANT GIVE THIS THING AWAY UNTIL WE GET TO AT LEAST 500 FOLLOWS ON THE IG PAGE, SO SHARE AND SPREAD THE WORD!!!!!

Got a chance to work on this a little. Threw the grind on, drilled some holes, and figured out the direction I want to go with it. LONG STORY SHORT... was going to raffle it off with all proceeds going to a veterans... well, doesn't matter. They never got back to me. So, we are doing an old fashioned giveaway when we get to 500 likes.
Going to use that blue carbon fiber there as the main handle component, and I ordered some orange g10 liner material that should give a nice little pop of color. Sculpt them up a bit. Probably going to do a "techy" kydex sheath, perhaps more "carbon fiber" if I can find it. Should make the whole thing feel modern. Slapped some clay on for a hamon, and it will have a stonewashed (and probably blackened) finish when it's done. Right now it's going to dry. In the meantime, let's blow this up. Help me find some new followers! Thanks 😀

Tossed a little dye on too.

Look what I found... re-sanded and buffed out a few scuff marks on this guy. It kind of got buried on the bench with tools and whatnot thrown on it for who knows how long.
Making a sheath for it now, will be up for sale soon! Lemmie know if you want it.

Instagram is being dumb and not showing me my gallery when I go to upload stuff this week. It's only letting me pick 1 picture at a time from a random pull down menu. Anyone else having that issue?
Either way, here is one of those tiny tables finished. 18" tall, and 18x18 top. All red oak, all around. Finished with boiled linseed oil. Easy peasy. For only using a mitre saw, a simple $8 dowel jig, ratchet straps to glue up the top, and some vigorous hand sanding, this thing came out great. And just look at that wood grain. That's some sexy wood grain right there.

Hi there. Been a bit. So, a few weeks ago, I smashed my hand with a hammer. Pretty bad. Hurt alot. Good times (not really). Finally better.

Anyway... before I start working on knives again, I have a little woodworking project. Again. I know I know... But when your wife's workplace needs three little tables sized for tiny humans, you make three little tables sized for tiny humans... so, here's the start of three little oak tables sized for tiny humans. (Kids, if that wasn't clear. The tiny humans. Are kids. Mmmmkay bye) side note... Oak is heavy AF 🥴

Nothing more terrifying in the shop when you lightly touch the fully revved grinder and the belt literally explodes. That was a newish belt too.
Fingers... check.
Face... check
Sanity... nope

Ordered a leather stamp from with my dragon, and HOT DAMN if that ain't cool as hell! Look at all that detail! The stamp is about 1"x2"
I wanna redraw the logo so I can make a tiny one that fits into a 1" space on the leather, but this one is so damn cool if the project has the space to fit it.
Also, I ordered this and they had a proof to me the same night, and had this made and shipped in like 2 days. Awesome place if you're looking for your own.

Gotta love the "community guidelines"
When you call someone out for being a dirt bag, but YOUR comment is removed... riiiiiiight. Also, I didn't get a screenshot of the threat they slap you with, "do it again and you will lose your account and all your content."
Sorry mommy, I'll be a good little boy from now on.

Some of you long time followers know, I love me some old s**t.
So, kids are back in school finally, and I've been cleaning our cellar out, some old junk that was left to us. Naturally it falls on me to clean it out... 😑
But, found this gem. First aid kit from the 60's. Still mostly stocked with the OG stuff. Pretty cool. I love it for the patina. I'm thinking up a some kind of wall mount for it eventually. Fits my aesthetic quite well.

** if you read all that, thanks. Update: my knife blanks are in production, should have them soon. If you read THAT and have no idea what I'm talking about, check out a few of my recent posts. 😉

I take my camping food very seriously in this house. Oh, going camping again this weekend.
1. Going to take lots of pics/vids of testing that big blade I made.
2. These two sauces make the best marinades. Especially that PF changs teriyaki sauce, SOOO good.
3. Soak those skewers in water before you make the kabobs, it'll help keep them from burning on the fire.
4. Definitely remember to cut the pointy tips off if you plan on putting them in ziplock bags for further marinating (I dump the whole bottle afterwards into each one) and for transport. Like.. in a cooler to the campground/cookout/whatever.
5. Anyone have any good tips for mushrooms? Every single one split on me when I skewered it... that part I haven't had much luck with over the years. Maybe I'll pre drill the holes on the drill press... 😏 😜

Perfect example of why I will be making a mockup of every new design. Middle one matches the picture, which, looks great on paper, but as soon as you grab it, it was uncomfortable to hold. So if you look on the template on the left, you can see I changed the handle ever so slightly, moving that point up just a tiny bit, and that made it very comfortable to hold onto.

I need to figure out where I got this plywood from, it's perfect for this process. Very easy to cut out on my bandsaw and clean up with the grinder and a dremel.

This post brought to you by "a day late because FB doesn't always post what it's supposed to from IG."

Finished this knife up as much as it's going to be for now. I didn't have metal I liked in the right dimensions that I could turn into a pommel nut, so that part will come later. But it's assembled and ready for tree murdering choppy chops in the backwoods. That gcarta handle was more difficult to sand than I had anticipated. It just resists everything you throw at it. But once you put in that elbow grease, oh boy does it look purty. I also know, it's going to be one tough handle...

Photos from Ragnarök Bladeworks's post 08/15/2022

I have a great idea... how about I finish a damn knife!
Found an old piece of damascus that I'm going to use for the guard. Why the hell not... then, small slab of African ebony. Not pictured: I'll put in a slice of copper, then onto the main course with some G-carta I've been hoarding for way too long.

Tomorrow, I should have the guard cut and fit, shaped, etched, and everything else ready for final assembly. Oh, still need to make a pommel nut on the lathe. That should go... ya know what, not jinxing that... but there's a small chance I can have this finished tomorrow if I focus and life doesn't intervene...

In the meantime, also going to be drawing up the official line art for that raffle knife to send off to the water jet people for them to make a cad file from. Had to switch art programs, been learning that for the past week or so. As exemplified by all my Tshirt shenanigans...

08/15/2022

Okay, round two of the swag train... do people still say swag? Needless to say I've been forced to abandon Teepublic. Even though Redbubble OWNS Teepublic, I can't seem to find any examples of the same shady treatment of its artist base.

I've uploaded four, yes FOUR designs, that you can get as stickers, t-shirts, mugs, notebooks, whatever! When you navigate to the page, I think its set to display something random within each design, so if it's a sticker as you view it (like in my picture here) and you want a tshirt for example, just use the navigation panel on the left to find the category you want (within my artist profile).

Now, for a nice little hack, I highly suggest installing Honey or the Capital One thing that finds coupon codes for you automatically. There's almost always a coupon code for Redbubble on one of them (my capital one plug-in found a 20% off coupon code, just today in fact). I am not sponsored by either of those... just a nice thing to have.

New link: https://www.redbubble.com/people/RokBlade/shop?asc=u
let's hope this one sticks around a bit longer.

Oh, this is fun. Account deleted, just like that. It won't let me log in, there's no ticket number or something to do. It's just gone, and along with any proof that I had made money, all be it very little. No explanation except a link to their terms conditions, which I so very much did not violate.

I'm fu***ng pi**ed off right now.

08/12/2022

I'll be sure to make some more designs in the near future, and definitely share when Teepublic is having a sale. Thank again to those who bought a shirt!

Been quiet around here lately because , well, I haven't done much lately. Not only have we had 95⁰+ (f) degree weather for about two weeks straight (and when it's that hot outside, my shop is easily 10-15⁰ hotter, and that's without running the forge), just simply been spending time with the kids and wife. It's important to put energy and time into those relationships. Love takes work too.
*** Now, onto the picture. If you're still reading. APARENTLY... at some point point my air hose on my compressor decided to have a hole melted into it. Not sure how, but that happened. Then, my compressor, which is set to auto... decided it should run for 24 hours straight... by the time I discovered it, it was so hot, you could cook an egg on it. The air coming out was at least 120 degrees. I'm positive I lost a solid chunk of life off this compressor because of that. It sounds a little funky now, but it still works for now. Oh, and the picture. I drained the tank, and over a cup of water came out... at least it's an aluminum tank and doesn't rust... I sold my beloved car to pay for this thing, I'm gonna be really really upset if it dies soon, especially after only owning it for a year. 🤷‍♂️ we'll see...
Got a new hose and am now turning it off auto...

So, I did a thing.
I uploaded my new logo (finally) and made a "university" style t-shirt (with a little assistance from ) and uploaded it to TeePublic. For the next 23 hours, its on sale for $14 instead of $22. If you wanna show a little support for me here on the page, head on over and snag one! You can pick any color you want, it doesn't have to be blue 😉
You can also snag it as a sticker, a hoodie, a coffee mug...

Here's my design that got the most votes, #3. I'm going to get a bunch of these cut out as blanks, and the very first one I finish is going to be raffled off! All proceeds from that raffle will go to (they are just finding out now with this tag, haha). They help veterans, active duty, first responders, etc. learn our mysterious and sorcerous blacksmithing ways, help with ptsd and whatnot. I have some awesome friends here like that will donate some custom poured metal for the bolsters, and possibly some other people pitching in as well for scales. This is gonna be fun 😀
So, make sure to ❤️ like, sub, share, and all that social shenanigans that helps this get out there, especially if you want to end up with a kick ass custom knife at the end of the day.

Also, the version of this on IG has some baller music... so don't forget to like my page over on IG (JUST IN CASE IT DOESN'T CROSS POST ALL THE STUFF TO HERE LIKE IT SHOULD BE DOING). Just saying...

Let's play a game:
I was planning on ordering some water jet cut designs... and I don't think that project is going to happen. So... I went over some of my drawings, and that's where you come in. Pick your top 3 that you wanna see, I'll pick the one with the most votes, and I'll have a bunch of blanks cut, and then make a bunch of those! Oh, but the best part... I'll make one, and raffle it off! Who wants a free knife!?
So... If you read all that, and want a kickass knife... vote for a design, tag some friends, get em to follow, blah blah blah, let's get some action going on this!

Photos from Ragnarök Bladeworks's post 06/29/2022

Had to rig the bejeesus out of my mill to get this drilled. Aparently... its like 1 inch too tall while fitting into the nice precision vice... so... I clamped it to the side of the nice precision vice. Super sketchy, don't recommend... however, if you've ever zeroed a vice to the milling table... it takes forever. I'm NOT doing that on a regular basis... but, got it all drilled and fitted, and I love me a good tight fit that needs a hammer to seat and unseat it. That'll be a solid handle.
Also, this g-carta from .l._hansenandsons is tough stuff. It does not like my 80 grit grinding belt 🤣 can't wait to see it all carved, sanded and polished, sticking out of a tree I inevitably hammer this blade into like a monster.

No, no I cannot finish it in time. 🤷‍♂️ "life uh, gets in the way." -dude from Jurassic Park. Don't quote me on that.
On the bright side, I think I at least know what I want the handle to look like...
AND local Ace hardware store for the win again with some diamond plate steel they rescued for me. I'll have to come up with something cool to make with it. Thanks 😊
AND AND... a little project that might come to fruition on the last pic there... I might be making a metric ton of Fairbairn Sykes style daggers.
If I am... maybe I'll make an extra and do a giveaway... I'd LOVE to hit 500 likes on my pages though if I do a giveaway... so, like and share? 😉 Keep Rok'n
