It was an truly an honor to be part of the 50th Anniversary of my Tai Chi teacher Bow Sim Mark's school in Boston. The reasons are vast and too much to explain in a post. Research her (pun intended). The Chinese Wushu Research Institute, Bow Sim Mark.

BRATTLE THEATER-CAMBRIDGE
Did you know that one of the first tai chi schools in the United States was founded right here in Boston? Bow-sim Mark moved here from Hong Kong along with her family and founded the now legendary Chinese Wushu Research Institute in 1976.
Sifu Mark is credited with helping to popularize the term Wushu (literally ‘martial arts’) here in the United States and she was among the first to teach standardized Wushu to American audiences.
One of her first students was her son, action star Donnie Yen who cut his teeth working with the amazing action choreographer and director Yuen Woo-ping in the ‘80s and ‘90s and has gone on to international stardom in films like Rogue One and JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4.

"The master's advice to "try softer" is a classic paradox in martial arts and philosophy. It means that forcing a result through brute strength, impatience, or intense effort usually creates resistance, making the goal take longer to achieve."
A young boy traveled across Japan to the school of a famous martial artist. When he arrived at the dojo, he was given an audience by the Sensei. "What do you wish from me", the master asked. The boy replied, "I wish to be your student and become the finest Karate practitioner in the land. How long must I study?" "Ten Years at least", the master answered.
The boy then said, "Wow...Ten years is a long time. What if I studied twice as hard as all your other students?" The master's reply... "Twenty Years".
Confused, the boy replied "Twenty???... what if I practice day and night with all my effort?" The master's reply... "Thirty Years"
Still confused, the boy asked the master "Why is it that each time I say I will work harder, you tell me that it will take longer?" Immediately, the master told him, "The answer is clear. When one eye is fixed upon your destination, there is only one eye left with which to find the Way"
“It’s not the hours you put in your work that counts, it’s the work you put in the hours.”
