As a personal trainer with over 20 years of experience, I’m passionate about helping women transform their bodies and their lives through the power of strength training. My own fitness journey began in my 30s when I hired a personal trainer who helped me not only change my body but also build my confidence. His guidance showed me how fitness can unlock a deeper sense of strength, and it was in that moment that I knew I wanted to help other women experience the same transformation. Now in my 50s, I can’t thank my younger self enough for starting me on this journey of strength, which has only become more essential as I age. I’ve had the privilege of helping hundreds of women over the years learn how to live strong, healthy lifestyles, and I believe strength training is the key to thriving at any age. To me, it’s about more than just reshaping your physique—it’s about building resilience, embracing vitality, and discovering your inner power. There’s a big difference between just exercising and actually following a program designed to get you stronger.

Your workouts should have a purpose. They should progress with you. And they should be built around you — not everyone else in the room.

That’s what personal training is supposed to be.

Why choose personal training over group training?

Don’t get me wrong — I love group training. I’ve been involved with it throughout my career, and there is absolutely a place for the energy, community and motivation that comes with it.

But I’ve always come back to one-on-one private training, and here’s why.

Private training is personal.

Every workout is built around your body, your movement, your ability, your goals and how you’re feeling that day.

You’re not trying to keep up with the person next to you. You’re not comparing yourself to someone who may be stronger, more experienced or progressing at a completely different pace.

You’re not getting lost in the room.

Your trainer is watching you — your form, your movement, your fatigue, your progress and your limitations.

It’s my job to know when to push you, when to challenge you, when to modify something and when to scale things back.

Some days the win is lifting heavier.
Some days it’s moving better.
Some days it’s simply showing up and meeting your body where it is that day.

Group training can be great.

But if you want more instruction, more attention and a workout that is truly designed around you, that’s where one-on-one training shines.

Personal training should be personal.

Age is just a number. The data tells the real story.

On the left: 45. On the right: 55.

I recently had a DEXA scan to see the “internal” results of my lifestyle. These markers are the gold standard for health and longevity, and at 55, I’m incredibly proud of where I stand:

• Biological Age: 45 (Literally 10 years younger than the calendar).
• Body Comp: A+ (Top 98th percentile).
• Visceral Fat: 0.26 lbs (Excellent/Near Zero).
• Bone Density: Top Notch.

People constantly look for shortcuts or “hacks,” but the A+ comes from the “boring” stuff done relentlessly. I strength train several times—3 to 4 times a week. I prioritize protein every single day. I keep processed foods and alcohol to a minimum. My cardio? Hiking my dog a couple of miles a day.

It’s pretty simple: Consistency over excuses. I’m 55 years old and I’ve never felt more capable. Don’t let your age be the reason you stop; let it be the reason you start.

This time of year has a way of weighing on all of us, and I completely understand that our moods follow. But please, be mindful of the energy you bring into your training sessions. The energy you walk in with can truly make or break your progress — mentally and physically.
And just as importantly, please be mindful of the person standing in front of you who is always here for you, pouring energy into you, trying to lift you up and push you through every single session. There is only so much a personal trainer can give — and as much as we care, we are not therapists. We genuinely don’t always know how to respond to deep emotional weight, and carrying it session after session takes a toll on us too.
Come in, work hard, and let the session be your reset. That’s what we’re here for. 💪

One year ago, Carrie walked into my studio three months postpartum and made a decision to show up for herself, even when it was hard.

Since then, she has lost over 55 pounds while being a full-time mother, wife, and veterinarian. No excuses. No shortcuts. Just consistency, patience, and commitment.
