Ballet has a language all its own!
Today’s word: Penché.
Meaning “leaning” or “inclined” in French, a penché is a position where the dancer tilts the upper body forward as the working leg extends higher behind them — creating that beautiful, elongated line you see here.
You’ll often see a penché performed from an arabesque, requiring dancers to maintain turnout, extension, balance and control as the body moves forward and the leg lifts behind.
It may look like it’s all about flexibility, but there’s a whole lot of strength, placement and control happening, too!

The studio is almost ready for this again!

In just a few days, we’ll be welcoming our dancers back to the studio and officially beginning our Decade Season — ten years of learning, growing, performing and sharing a love of ballet together.
We can’t wait to see these studios full again! 💗

10 years of ballet — and we’re just getting started!
This season marks a very special milestone for A Leg Up Ballet Academy: our Decade Season!
For 10 years, our studio has been filled with first pliés, big accomplishments, beautiful performances, lasting friendships and countless memories.
And today, we’re officially ONE WEEK away from beginning another year at the barre.
We can’t wait to welcome our dancers back on September 8 and celebrate A Decade of Dance all season long.
