The September Sit
Day #15- 10 Minutes
Now we are getting into the swing of it. As we meet the halfway point of the challenge (and hopefully the starting month of your new perminant routine) we are at the 10 minute mark. It would also be fine from here on out to staty with 10 minute or less and remain consistently racticeing rather than forcing more time than you can commit to and giving up completely.
Once we learn to sit longer, the mind begins to transform. It sometimes take the first 5 minutes to allow the nerovus system to truly settle and that is when the real inner work can begin.
To be radically honest, I was one of those, "I can't sit still!" kinda gals. I used to marvel at the other students who looked so peaceful and doubted if I had it in me. I deeply wanted the peace that I saw around me and soon recognized that my distracted mind wasn't going to magically calm down on its own. I commited to the practice and the first month felt like torture to me. I nearly quit a dozen times. I actively pursued meditation classes and eventually went on to spend time at a monastary. Over the years my resistance changed to resiliance, my discomfort into peace, and my stress deeply declined. I notice my body relax and my fibromyalgia symptoms diminish. What I had been avoiding what was I so desparately needed. If you find it hard, I feel you. It doesn't just gets better, it becomes a refuge and a source of steadiness and ease. ~Chris Loebsack
