This post is overdue.. I see many films from outside the US. I am extremely embarrassed by the clown in the WH, and the red side that supports it (tariffs, wars, ICE, etc). It has caused 'normal' Americans much stress. Our costs have gone up 5x (tariffs, $6-fuel, etc). It's no wonder the rest of world thinks we are off our rockers for voting this crap into office. On behalf of myself and other decent Americans, I apologize. ...I feel powerless to do anything..

...a little backstory. After I created dr5 in 1990 it was just for my own shooting. Through the 90s I used it as my main b&w go-to and clients wanted a b&w slide option to Color. The look of it was also not like anything else. Back then it was by hand processing and only sepia. Skip to the late 90s when I was approached by a&i in LA and Kodak to offer the process as a service. The neutral side of dr5 is actually a separate process from the sepia. I had to redesign the 1/2 the process to get a consistent neutral. I thought about remaining the the neutral but kept it all as dr5.. so in reality the neutral should be 'dr9'đŸ˜‰. When the service took hold neutral became the main process. I then stopped shooting regularly. After 36yrs the process has come full circle, now costing me 8x what it used to back in the early 90s, but now I am using it again for my own shooting.

I was showing a gallery I work with some of my old work and they requested me to submit a bunch of shots from back in the day Midwest Center for Photography . These are the shots I submitted recently.

So if anyone was curious on what I've been working on the past 1.5yrs. .. with the lab and big machine retired, i still needed to run film (dr5 mainly and for my own shooting). Those of you that understand the differences between D&D and rotary - no need to read.. with D&D being the pinnacle procedure, I had to take a raw old rotary machine and adapt it to mimic a custom 18-step process. So if you wondered what I was doing.. Im still tweeking this or that.

Film is like that of apple-pie. What do I mean by this? Not too long ago digital imaging was the fad. serious photography would not consider digital as viable.
1st, this is not a sales pitch post. For me and my shooting, dr5 is the only thing that makes sense for serious b&w photography. The galleries i submit to can tell the difference, even scanned-to-jpg.
For those who know, I am available still as private processing. I'm doing it for those who still want the 'apple-pie'. It costs what it cost im afraid.. if that doesn't work for you, I totally understand, and no skin off my nose. I'm happy to provide expert suggestions and other options.

If you watched the Nolan piece on his new movie, there is 'one lab' world-wide left that can produce his film, processing.
I was talking to an old lab colleague a few weeks ago who called me for some Chem advice. He told me that his Fuji rep said there were only '20' e6 labs left in N.America. ..and of those 20, ONLY 5 were dip&dunk... wow... All the made.up hype about 'Film coming back' , for whatever reason, it just isn't im afraid.. sad but true.

The best for your future film use is up to you - you will have to consider a DIY option, or something like learning wet-plate, etc... DIY in the end will save you some $$s, but for those not in the know, everything is 5x+ more expensive then 5yrs ago (chemz, water, power, rent, shipping). dw

I am set to go. Some of have gotten their film back, many are still waiting. It will take me the better part of the month to get everything run. In image; is how I am offering scans (i let the lab scanner go, it was on its last legs), 'contact scans'. The contact-sheet scans are drumscan quality. Maybe down the line I'll look at a noritsu, but for now this is what I have.
I'm a stickler for details, and the processor had to perform as dr5's past 27yrs. ...its finally there. TY. dw

CAN YOU SEE IT?? ....So this needs an explanation.. I was digging through lab storage and this board came up, buried. This is a transparency board produced by in the early 2000s (feel free to chime in kodak) for professional labs that used kodak chemicals. Every lab had one of these world-wide. I had reached out to when I started the lab, through/at photoexpo.plus (which I think is no more - and that's an exciting story initself). They were impressed by dr5. When I processed the film samples for this board, I thought i had the ticket. Financial security and a photo legacy the process deserved. ..then 911 happened. Everyone i was hooked up with at Kodak disappeared, and it was like none of it ever happened. ..a sad thing indeed.
