Pilates by Marcy

Marcy McCusker is a classically trained dancer and was first introduced to Pilates mat work at a young age as a tool to further her study of dance.

After beginning her professional dance career in Los Angeles, she suffered a severe ankle injury and was re-introduced to Pilates as a rehabilitation tool and is now hooked for life! She was certified a short while later by Pilates Sports Center (2005) and went on to become one of their PMA Certified Master Trainers. #Doubleleglower beautifully demonstrated by my 5 year old ๐Ÿ˜‚. We are still working on his form but Iโ€™d say itโ€™s pretty good. Btw, he spontaneously did this on his own. I do not make him do pilates...yet ๐Ÿ˜‰.

โ€ข Start with a nice down dog stretch to prepare and then move into a properly aligned plank. No sinking into the lower back.
โ€ข From plank draw right knee to right elbow trying not to loose the plank position keeping the shoulders over your wrists. Draw Left knee to left elbow, right knee to left elbow, left knee to right elbow.
โ€ข From plank go right into โ€œdown down up upsโ€ alternating which elbow goes first.
โ€ข Finish the series with a #vinyasaflow wiping the slate clean & rest in childโ€™s pose or maybe do the whole thing 2 more times ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’œ.

Performing this series up on one knee add a little #balancechallenge too ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿป.

I did the series with just 3 of each variation to keep it at โ˜๏ธ min (and used the tempo app to speed up parts;) but I would typically do more like 5-10 each. Used 1 blue.

THE SERIES:
* Rhomboid pulls 5-10x
* Rotator cuff pull 5-10x
* Rotation from the waist holding arms in a beach ball shape 5-10x
* Switch hands to do a single arm serve with rotation 5-10x
* Over head extensions (โ€œshooting starโ€ ๐Ÿ’ซ some peeps call it )5-10x

Having my toes on the foot bar for the front splits limits the extension a bit but I need the balance work more than anything. #waistwednesdays ๐Ÿ‘—๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿป the good old #hundreds ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป! Yeah I know โ€” no one loves them but they are pretty great for your core and a solid way to warm up๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿป.

Joseph traditionally did them with ALL the springs on ๐Ÿ˜ฑ! I personally like to use 1 RED ๐Ÿ˜‰. AND I like to vary it as much as possible to stay engaged physically and present mentally throughout the exercise.

This a progressively harder variation. Sound on to hear the breathing. I added 10 post exhaustive breaths at the end to really eek out as much as possible from the transverse abs.

I prefer long inhales and exhales to keep tension out of the neck. Squeezing a ball also helps keep tension out of the neck while adding some nice inner thigh work too ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿฆต๐Ÿผ.

#fullbodyfriday ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป This challenging series hits a lot of stuff: abs, shoulders, triceps, glutes, hamstrings, and back. Definitely a #fullbodyflow ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿป.

I used 1 RED spring and had to speed up some of the transitions to make it all fit in 1 min. โ˜บ๏ธ

THE FLOW:
* 4-6 Tendon Stretch with toes on the edge of the reformer carriage. Be sure not to use momentum by going nice and slow ๐Ÿ˜‰.
* 6-10 triceps dips with feet against the shoulder rests.
* 4 Long Back Stretch in each direction.
* End with a forward fold stretch.

Important to suck the naval to spine first and then dive in. After 4-6 of them each way, I like to add a little side to side lateral bend at the end to really get at those oh so lovely #lovehandles ๐Ÿ˜‰.

This series is made up of classic forward facing arm work done on the knees to add a balance challenge during the transitions. (Video is sped up at times to keep it at a minute in length;)
THE FLOW:

Things I noticed about myself in this video ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ: I was tired and probably had the ropes to short because thereโ€™s a slight overuse of my neck happening in parts of the series. Another reason why having a trainer watch you as you workout or videoing yourself can be helpful to catch a things like that. ๐Ÿ‘

This is an advanced #Plank series but can be simplified by adding more breaks ( like #childspose) between each variation. I had to use the #tempoapp to speed up parts so it would be under a minute ๐Ÿ˜‰.
The Flow (on 1 red spring):
โ€ข 6-10 planks moving just the arms from the shoulders.
โ€ข 6-10 planks moving into a pike.
โ€ข hold for 6 counts at the top of the last pike.
โ€ข come back to plank twist the hips to hit the obliques 6-10x.
โ€ข 6-10 planks pointing and flexing feet.
