🌿 Tiny Organisms, Big Impact!🌳

Look closely at the bark of this giant old-growth tree at Silver Falls! Those bright green-yellow branching growths and gray, crusty patches are likely different kinds of lichens. Fascinating partnerships between fungi and algae or cyanobacteria.

🍃 Why do they matter? Lichens provide food and shelter for small organisms, contribute to forest biodiversity and can help scientists monitor environmental conditions.

✨ Even the smallest life forms play a role in keeping our forests alive. Protect the trees, preserve the biodiversity and let nature thrive!
