🔧 TECH TIP TUESDAY – IS YOUR LOWRANCE GHOST PROPERLY CALIBRATED? 🎣
Is your Lowrance Ghost trolling motor having trouble holding position or steering in the correct direction? Before assuming something is wrong with the motor, check your calibration!
⚙️ TWO IMPORTANT CALIBRATIONS:
✅ Compass Calibration – Helps the Ghost accurately determine the boat's heading for GPS-assisted steering and Anchor Mode.
✅ Bow Offset Calibration – Aligns the trolling motor's steering direction with the boat's centerline for accurate operation.
⚠️ SIGNS YOU MAY NEED CALIBRATION:
🔹 Anchor Mode doesn't seem to perform correctly
🔹 Boat steers in an unexpected direction
🔹 Heading control isn't responding accurately
🔹 Problems began after changes to the motor's setup
💡 TECH TIP: Lowrance recommends performing compass calibration in calm conditions with minimal wind and current, allowing enough room to turn the boat through a full circle.

🔧 TECH TIP TUESDAY – COULD YOUR TROLLING MOTOR HAVE WATER INSIDE? 💧
Water intrusion in a trolling motor's lower unit can lead to corrosion and internal damage if it's allowed to continue.
⚠️ WATCH FOR THESE WARNING SIGNS:
💧 Fishing line behind the prop – Line wrapped around the prop shaft can damage the shaft seal and potentially allow water inside.
🎨 Bubbling, blistering or flaking paint – Paint coming off the lower motor housing doesn't automatically mean water intrusion, but bubbling or corrosion underneath the coating can be a warning sign that deserves a closer look.
⚙️ Unusual noise or vibration – Grinding, growling or a motor that suddenly sounds different may indicate an internal problem.
🔄 Excessive prop-shaft movement – Side-to-side movement can indicate a bearing, shaft or seal issue.
🟠 Visible rust or corrosion – Corrosion around the prop shaft, seams or lower unit shouldn't be ignored.
⚡ Loss of power or intermittent operation – Electrical problems have many possible causes, but combined with other symptoms, they can warrant an inspection.
💡 TECH TIP: Remove your prop periodically and check for fishing line, shaft damage, corrosion and anything unusual around the seal area.
One warning sign doesn't necessarily mean you have water inside the motor. But when you start seeing several of these symptoms together, it's worth having the motor checked.
