Just a reminder that the sign up app for the Summerville Family YMCA is switching over on Monday the 15th. The title of the new app is just "Summerville Family YMCA” and looks like the photo below. You can download it now and pick a password (just select "forgot my password.”) The app won’t be live until Monday morning, at which point the old Community Connect app is supposed to be disabled.
I’ve written down the names of everyone who has signed up on the old app just so I know who has tried to sign up early, but I suspect those names will disappear on Monday.
So do your best to sign up Monday morning on the new app. The front desks of both facilities will be standing by to help anyone having trouble. If you have trouble and don’t have time to work through it before class on Monday morning, don’t worry—I won’t turn you away.
If you can work it out on Monday for the rest of the week, though, that would be best only because we are in the Group Fitness Room at the Ponds next week, so space will be more limited. But again, don’t stress about it too much. We’ll fit everyone in.

Just a reminder that I’m having my back procedure this coming Thursday, so my Thursday and Friday classes (the 11th and 12th) will be canceled.
I will be teaching all of my Monday through Wednesday classes. We are back in the gym for Tuesday Zumba®️ Toning and Wednesday Zumba Gold®️!

Just a reminder that we are in the Group Fitness Room for Ponds classes this week, so space is more limited. There are a few spots left on the wait list for both Zumba Gold and Gentle Barre on Wednesday. Don’t be shy about coming in even if you’re on the wait list. We usually get a few cancellations and we can fit a few more than 20 in. There are still regular spots available for Zumba +Lift on Friday.

The Summerville Family YMCA is open on Memorial Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. I WILL be teaching my two Monday classes Downtown at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. 💃

For Zumba+Lift class tomorrow, grab two sets of weights (2 and 4 lbs., 3 and 5, or 5 and 8.)
Just a reminder that circuit training is specifically designed to keep the heart rate elevated, build strength, and keep the caloric burn going well past the workout. This is why we do cardio songs in between each strength session, and why you should be aiming for weights that challenge you within a few sets of reps.
Of course, you can alter your own workout in whatever way works best for you, but in general Zumba+Lift is designed to be a circuit class. Unlike Zumba Toning or Barre, we are not going for lots of repetitions with light weights for a toning effect. We’re going for strength and calorie burn. What that means is that the strength segments are going to be heavier weights and fewer reps. A good guide is that your weights should be heavy enough that as little as 16 repetitions start to be difficult.
So, if you’ve been coming to Zumba+Lift and you are feeling like you want more strength work, try using heavier weights. You’re probably stronger than you think. (Safety, of course, is always paramount, so increase your weight size gradually and monitor yourself carefully.)

Just a reminder that Brae is subbing BOTH Zumba at 9 am tomorrow and Zumba Toning at 10 am. I know that I initially told you that she would only be available for the 10 am class, but it turns out that she can do BOTH! Yay!

Sub update: Fridays’s Zumba+Lift is still canceled, but the good news is that my Monday classes will BOTH be covered by Brae! Have fun with Brae!

I will be out of town tomorrow, Friday May 8th, through Monday, May 11th. Friday’s Zumba+Lift class is canceled. I’ll let you know about the final sub situation for my Monday classes as soon as I verify.
UPDATE: Brae has kindly agreed to sub BOTH of my Monday morning classes, so happy dancing!

Sorry, folks, my 9 and 10 a.m. classes were canceled today as I have been up all night with the stomach flu. 🤢 I hope you received the email notifications in time to change your plans. I also hope to feel better in time for tomorrow’s class. 🤒
