𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟓𝐭𝐡, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔
With the completion of Rounds 5 and 6, we have officially crossed the midpoint of our 2026
season. Our final event at the Washington Circuit is now less than three weeks away, taking
place September 12–13. The season will then conclude in October with Rounds 9 and 10 at
United Karting in Hanover, Maryland, on October 17–18.
Our season points standings have been updated following the August doubleheader, and
several close championship battles are beginning to take shape. With three drop rounds
available, there is still plenty of opportunity for the standings to change. It will all come down to
the final race weekend in October to determine who will be crowned the inaugural Capital
Karting Challenge champions.
As we discuss the championship points, and in an effort to provide full transparency, we feel it is
important to address what happened during our August doubleheader event.
As some of you may already be aware, our doubleheader event on August 8 was affected by
several factors outside of our control. During the 2-Cycle Final for Round 5, the track shut down
due to lightning in the area. The lightning persisted until approximately 5:00 PM, and as we
were preparing to restart the remainder of our program, we were informed that our shared ALS
ambulance had been instructed to leave early after the Race Car Club we were working with
ended its event for the day.
Without the required ALS coverage, we were unable to continue the program. Unfortunately, this
meant we could not complete the Sportsman and Cadet Finals for Round 5 or any of the Round
6 Finals.
We sincerely apologize for how the situation played out and are extremely disappointed that we
were unable to complete the full program. We are already exploring alternative options for 2027
to help ensure that a situation like this does not happen again.
For Round 5, Sportsman and Cadet points were awarded based on the Pre-Final results, as this
was the last completed race session for those classes.
For Round 6 points, we explored several different options and ultimately decided that the fairest
solution was to recognize the racers and competitors who showed up to the track and paid their entry fees, rather than simply canceling the round. Every driver registered for Round 6 received Cancellation Points.
Under our points system, if a round is unable to progress past qualifying for any reason, all
registered drivers receive first-place points.
While Round 6 progressed beyond qualifying, we
felt applying the Cancellation Points rule was the fairest and most consistent solution for
everyone affected by the cancellation.
All current championship point standings can be viewed on the Capital Karting Challenge
website or on the Alpha Race Results website under Capital Karting Challenge.
As mentioned earlier, Rounds 7 and 8 are coming up fast. Be on the lookout for a special
announcement coming soon regarding this upcoming event, with pre-registration opening
shortly.
Again, we want to thank everyone who has supported the Capital Karting Challenge during our first season. We look forward to two strong events as we close out an exciting inaugural year
and crown our first-ever series champions.
