Sumter Tennis Association

STA's Wimbledon-themed mixer was a huge success on Saturday! We had over 80 players, great weather, wooden racquets, some AMAZING food (thanks, Tasha!), and LOTs of new tennis friends!

- The many volunteers (about 15!) who helped make this event happen
- The players who volunteered to be subs to make sure everyone played
- Tasha for giving up her Friday to make food for 80 players!
- PTC for allowing us to host fun events like this!
- USTA South Carolina and USTA Southern for their continued support of community tennis associations like STA, especially the grant money they provide that has helped us build such strong, vibrant tennis community in Sumter!

It turns out that we CAN BE serious...about promoting the healthy sport of tennis for the residents of Sumter and surrounding communities!

Ladies and Gentlemen of the All Sumter Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (also known as the Sumter Tennis Association), here is your formal invitation to Breakfast at Wimbledon 2026, our biggest mixer of the year!

An STA tradition, this free event will be held at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter on Saturday, June 27th, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Ooh la la! What a fun time at the annual STA “Tailgate at Roland Garros” French Open Mixer!

Thanks to Tasha for organizing the potluck, and to the MANY players who brought food/beverages…the food was fantastique! Thanks also to everyone who pitched in to set up and clean up…MERCI!

Special thanks to our captains…Hether, Sunny, Alex, and Sean! Sunny’s Team Orange beat Alex’s Team Green in a tiebreaker to claim the championship!

The Second Annual ProAm Championship! We had a ball — literally 😄 — playing Red Ball tennis: smaller courts, slower balls, and the perfect way to introduce new players to the game.

STA Parent-Child Mixer!

Thanks to all the tennis parents and kids who joined us for another STA “Parent-Child Mixer” on Saturday! Lots of fun had by all…and some pretty strong tennis from the older kids (AND the parents!)

“Team Shaw Tennis Clinic”…Round 3!

STA hosted our third “Team Shaw Tennis Clinic” on Friday, a FREE intro-to-tennis clinic for military members/spouses.

We had 34 (yes, 34!) military members/spouses from Shaw AFB who started learning to play tennis!

Each of the 34 participants received:
- Free racquet
- 2 hours of free instruction from pros Brian and Nick
- Free dinner catered by Moe’s Southwest Grill
- Free 6-week “Quick Start” beginners clinic ($96 value!)
- Free STA membership after completion of Quick Start! ($20 monetary value, HUGE social value!)

Thanks to:
- PTC for allowing STA to use the courts
- Pros Brian and Nick for the great instruction
- On-court STA helpers Sean, Kigo, Steve, Tasha, and Kay who helped Brian/Nick feed balls and run drills
- All the players who also helped set-up and clean-up (gotta love military people!) Special shout outs to Sean (STA) and Ruben and Pamela (Shaw) who did the bulk of the clean-up work...thanks!
- The new "609th AOC Tennis Club" from Shaw who joined us for dinner after a mini-mixer of their own! STA appreciates you helping get the Team Shaw Tennis clinic members connected to other established military tennis groups. (And nice logo/patch!)

Red Ball with STA's North Hope Center friends

On May 6th, our North Hope Center friends took to the red clay at PTC for some Red Ball with STA. And they were AMAZING! Look for them on the pro tour soon!
