Discreet Ballistics converges signature reduction and lethality

Finding gems like these on the internet never gets old. Expanded 188gr Selous pictured.

Range was 97yds. Deer ran 40-50yds before piling up. Thanks to our customer Zack for sending this in. Zach shot a total of four deer last week with the 280gr - all passthroughs!

Roach barrels are back from nitriding and ready for assembly. These barrels are constructed from 416 Stainless with a 28-32 HRC. They have 1:7 twist 9mm (.355 diameter) bore and measure 1.78" effective length. Don't let the short length fool you, with expanding 9mm like our 121gr Selous, this tiny barrel is capable of surprising levels of trauma. Look through our feed for test/hunting pics.

Roach barrel kits, Roach pistols, and Roach SBRs should be shipping sometime in November

🖕🏻-30F! Testing in the Wyoming winter will now be much more comfortable!

The Roach SBR with thermal scope is pretty great for close in work in the dark.

Roaches ship in November. Keep an eye on your inbox.

Four and a half years ago our first production loading of 8.6BLK began. This out-of-production load sent 300Gr Mead FMJs about 950FPS at the muzzle. It shot alright, averaging maybe 2-3 MOA in the early three twist barrels of that vintage. Not too shabby for a first go around.

Present day our 8.6BLK offerings include machined monolithic hunting and target products known for excellent accuracy and terminal effects.

What will the next five years bring to 8.6BLK? What sort of advancements would y'all like to see?

Side note: Go check out Rob's new shop Grand Teton Gun & Range in Rexburg, ID. Rob is extremely knowledgeable and will get you what you need.

Over the years we've had many requests for the ballistic coefficient (BC) values of our hunting projectiles. The BC values previously published on our website differ from what recent test data shows, so the site has been updated. More sampling is still required, but these numbers are much closer.

Discreet Ballistics 188gr .30 cal
Previously published: .300 G1 BC
Updated: .275 G1 BC (BC SD ≈ .0038)

Discreet Ballistics Tipped 280gr .338 cal
Previously published: .324 G1 BC
Updated: .303 G1 BC (BC SD ≈ .0032)

If you want to hunt successfully with subsonics well beyond 50 yards, these BC values matter every bit as much as muzzle velocity.

This video came in last night from a Discreet customer: a 205 lb East Texas management buck taken at 50 yards with an 8" barrel FIX in 8.6 BLK using tipped 280gr. Double-lunged with a full pass-through and a quarter-sized exit. The deer ran 40 yards and piled up.

Meanwhile the BC SD (the consistency of BC between bullets in the series) remained extremely low regardless of being tipped or not.

Discreet Ballistics customers have come to love the consistency of our products. Low projectile BC SD is a substantial part of it.

It's going to be a busy winter verifying tipped 188gr in hogs.

From the customer:

Lung shot at 115 yards. Bullet went through the bear, and the bear went 15 yards. 280 grain Selous 1020 fps at the muzzle - 338 Arc with a 1:3 twist barrel. The bear was blood shot all the way to its ears. Weight was approximately 400lbs - 7'1 squared. Doesn’t get much better than that.
