When God points you in the right direction after leaping, climbing and dodging all the obstacles in front of you it is with relief my heart and mind rests in my dance studio. My safe place. My happy place. My nurturing space! I am very proud of Dance IQ.

The story behind Dance IQ feels less like a “studio origin story” and more like a dance philosophy that grew legs, rhythm, and a recital calendar. 💫

At its core, Dance IQ was founded by Alisa Jacob after decades of teaching, performing, and studying dance education internationally. The studio was created as an alternative to the hyper-competitive “trophy factory” model that dominates many dance spaces. Instead, Dance IQ was built around creativity, inclusion, brain-based learning, and artistic development.

The “IQ” in the name reflects the idea that dance is intelligence in motion. Not just memorizing choreography, but developing:

* bodily-kinesthetic intelligence
* creativity
* emotional expression
* social awareness
* critical thinking
* musicality and problem-solving

That philosophy comes heavily from educational theory, especially the work of Howard Gardner and the standards of the National Dance Education Organization.

Before founding Dance IQ, Alisa Jacob had a long dance and teaching career that stretched from:

* performing/studying in Barcelona
* teaching in London
* instructing at Florida International University
* directing K-12 dance and musical theater programs at American Heritage School from 2009–2017.

Dance IQ itself launched in 2018 in the Weston/Sunrise area of South Florida. Early listings from 2018 already describe it as being “in business” and centered on inclusive, non-competitive dance education.

What made the studio stand out historically was its blend of:

* traditional dance forms like ballet, jazz, tap, and hip-hop
* somatic and brain-based movement
* creative movement improvisation
* musical theater production
* support for children with learning differences
* choreography and composition skills at young ages.
