Step into the world of strategy, creativity, and friendly competition at our Magic: The Gathering – Foundations & EOE Draft Night!

Whether you are a longtime planes walker or brand new to the game, this event is the perfect opportunity to build your deck, sharpen your skills, and connect with fellow players in a fun and welcoming environment.

Participants will draft cards from Magic: The Gathering Foundations and EOE booster packs to create a unique deck on the spot before battling it out in exciting matches throughout the evening.

Players will practice critical thinking, problem-solving, sportsmanship, and social connection while enjoying one of the world’s most popular trading card games.

All experience levels are welcome. Best suited for youth age 13+

The survey was developed by youth and responds to youth community connection needs identified in the 2024 Community Health Needs Assessment conducted by NMC and NCSS. It can be completed during class, afterschool, or other flexible time, and responses are confidential. Students may optionally enter a $50 Amazon gift card drawing by providing an email address.

From Empty Space to Shared Place

The transformation of the Short Stop Teen Lounge at Swanton Recreation has been so much more than a renovation project—it has been a lesson in leadership, teamwork, and community pride.

From the very beginning, our teens have been at the center of this journey. They helped write the grant that made this project possible, served on an advisory committee to guide the vision, gathered feedback from their peers, and rolled up their sleeves to make it happen. Together, they decluttered, organized, inventoried supplies, cleaned, painted, and reimagined what this space could become.

Today, the Short Stop Teen Lounge at Swanton Rec stands as a space created with youth, not just for youth. It is a place where young people can belong, build friendships, explore their interests, learn new skills, and develop the confidence to become leaders in our community.

Most importantly, this project has given our youth ownership. Every painted wall, organized shelf, and new idea reflects their hard work and dedication. They aren't just building a teen center—they're building a stronger community and a brighter future for themselves and the generations that follow.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this vision. The overwhelming encouragement from families, community members, educators, and partners reminds us just how important it is to invest in our young people.

Fall athletics the rec department are offering include Grade 3-6 'Jays Field Hockey, Ravens Soccer Itty Bitty through 4th grade, and Ducks Football which includes grade 1-4 flag and 5-8 tackle.
