WACHEVA PROGRAMS:

* WORKSHOP YES, IS ON.

* PERFORMANCE & CLASS NOT READY YET.

* * * Wacheva African dance/drum workshops are open.

Wacheva offers multiple types of workshops for Schools, Colleges or Dance Studios to choose from.
It is up to the interested schools or dance studios and the teaching artist to determine together the timing and schedule.

Students will be told the name of the dance and drum that they will learn, its place of origin and meaning.

Each dance step or drum rhythm will be broken down to a simple form and taught in an A, B, C-style of instruction.

The teacher will verbally play the drum rhythm, much like beat boxing, so the students become familiar with this style of drum rhythm and dance movement before they dance with live drums.

* * * About WACHEVA's African dance and drum performance.

The dance & drum performance is based and consists of the multifaceted traditional dances, rhythms and songs.

The group performs at various Schools, Colleges, Universities and Communities events.
Purpose:
Our tradition of this folk art was not designed for the stage on which it is so often presented today.

But since modernization has emerged, our culture has become a bridge, allowing this culture to connect with other cultures and peoples around the world.

It is also a means of communicating the values of life in Africa.

STAY TUNED.

YES, it was just like if it was in the village.
Really well performed, guys!

THE ZAOULI DANCE with MASK.

Those drummers, Dr. Djo bi, Tra bi, and Petit papa. When they play the rhythm for you, you don't have to reserve anything that day.

Nothing at all as a dancer. You're excited to bring out everything you know.
Not only because of their melodious rhythms they do, but also because of the harmony in the rhythm they make it.

That day, with the Zaouli mask I wore, the few Zaouli dance steps I learned with Boti Simplice, the real Zaouli dancer from Tibeita. I felt like a resident of Tibeita, Gohitafla, or Zuenoufla. The villages in Ivory Coast where Zaouli originates.

And Justin, the mask's sidekick, who has to pay close attention to the mask's movements, so it doesn't step on anything.

It was just like if it was in the village.
Really well performed, guys!

(That was at Syracuse University, NY)
Awesome!
