Goalkeeper One Soccer

Here is a simple #gktraining exercise working on defending the area, transition and distribution. You can adapt the distances and angles to meet the needs of your #goalkeepers. You could even work across the pitch if you have limited space. The exercise is repeated from both sides, or consider having 2 flank servers. All #goalkeepers are active and rotate after an action at each end. (In this case one #goalkeeper had an injury and could only serve so they worked on their diagonal, driven service). As #gkcoaches we often have to manipulate the environment and be creative to maximize the time in the session. In this #goalkeeping environment the #gks see a variety of service and are encouraged to get to the ball as early as possible* . After winning the ball the #gk receiving the straight serve, throws to the flank in transition. When the #goalkeeper receives the flank serve they have to deal with a quick tough and a clipped ball into the midfield. Again, you can adapt the spaces, types of distribution and the numbers of players. What would your next progression be? How would you build this exercise to make it more functional?” * we ask the goalkeepers to get to the ball as early as possible instead of saying “Catch it (the ball) at the highest point” which is not often possible.

How often do you actually work punching into your ?

Obviously there are technical considerations : approach to the ball, one hand vs two, contact surface , movement into the ball etc but how often do you work on the "why" to go with one vs two hands, the direction of the service & desired location for the punch?

When punching/boxing the ball there are basic principles but can you train it in a decision making environment so that in game decision making becomes easier?

In we know that skills are important & sometimes we touch on a subject but don't incorporate it into sessions.
