A pattern can tell you where to go, but it doesn’t tell you how to feel your way through it. 🐴

Yesterday’s lesson was all about Western Dressage — remembering the pattern, thinking ahead, and putting each movement together.

But in the middle of all that thinking, we still have to stay connected to our horse.

Stay soft. Stay present. Keep the rhythm. Listen to the little changes and continue the conversation instead of just checking off each part of the pattern.

That’s where the real learning happens.

Because I don’t want my students to just memorize a pattern and ride through it. I want them to understand what they’re feeling, what their horse is telling them, and how to work together through every step. 🤍

A little riding, a little showmanship, and a whole lot of connection. 🐴🤍

Yesterday we mixed things up a little — spending some time in the saddle and some time working on showmanship.

But no matter what we were doing, the focus stayed the same: being present with our horses, paying attention to their feel, and learning how to work together.

Because sometimes the best part of a lesson isn’t checking off everything we planned to work on. It’s those little moments where you can feel the connection start to come together.

Just a good day at the barn. ✨

Fall Brook Stable is bringing back one of the sweetest activities from camp for a special Halloween Read to the Horses evening! ❤️

On Friday, October 30th from 5:30–7:00 PM, kids can come in costume, bring their favorite Halloween book, and cozy up beside the horses for an evening of reading. 👻📖

There’s something pretty special about reading to a horse. No pressure, no judgment — just a quiet, patient listener who is happy to be there. 🤍

We’ll also have:
🎃 Halloween fun & costumes
📚 Story time with the horses
🍩 Donuts, apples & hot cocoa
🎨 A horse-themed craft
🐴 Time to meet and learn about the herd
🍎 A special treat for the horses

One of the sweetest moments at our recent camp happened when the kids grabbed books, settled in beside the horses, and started reading to them. ❤️

The horses absolutely LOVED it… and honestly, so did we.

So we decided this needed to become its own special evening at Fall Brook!

On Friday, October 30th from 5:30–7:00 PM, kids are invited to put on their Halloween costumes, bring their favorite Halloween book, and come read to the herd. 🎃📖🐴

One day, you’ll look back and realize these lessons were about so much more than horses. 🐴💜

Yes, they’re learning to ride.
But they’re also learning to be patient. To communicate. To problem solve. To take responsibility. To keep trying when something feels hard.

They’re learning that you don’t have to force something to make it happen. Sometimes you slow down, listen, change your approach, and find a way to work together.

And then there are the little moments…
The first time they do something on their own.
The smile when they realize they can.
The way they start to understand their horse.

Those are the moments that make it all worth it. 💜

Because I don’t just want to teach kids how to ride horses. I want to help them grow into confident, kind, capable humans—with a horse beside them every step of the way. 🐴✨

There’s something so special about starting a new season and knowing there are so many little moments ahead that we haven’t even seen yet. 🐴💜

Fall lessons officially started yesterday, and these kids did absolutely amazing. Watching them come back, grow in their confidence, and take on new challenges is one of my favorite parts of what I do.

I’m so excited to see what this group accomplishes over the next few months. Not just in the saddle, but in the little ways they continue to grow, learn, and become more confident in themselves.

Here’s to a new season full of growth, memories, and lots of time with the horses. 🍂🐴💜

What if the goal wasn’t to make the horse do it… but to create a conversation? 🐴

That was the focus of this morning’s lesson.

We stepped out of the saddle and into a free-lunging lesson—not to simply send a horse around the arena, but to help the rider become more aware of how much can be communicated without ever touching the reins.

Every step was an opportunity to observe.

The horse’s rhythm.
The change in energy.
The smallest shift in body language.
The difference between a horse responding and a horse simply reacting.

Could we influence the horse’s speed with feel? Could we recognize the difference between a jog and a trot by watching the rhythm of the movement? Could we find the slowest, most balanced jog possible without allowing it to become a walk?

And most importantly, could we do it together?

There is a big difference between asking, “How do I get my horse to do this?” and asking, “How can I make this clear enough for my horse to understand?”

That shift in perspective changes everything.

It encourages riders to slow down, pay attention, and take responsibility for their own communication. It teaches them that horsemanship is not about controlling every movement—it’s about creating clarity, trust, and partnership.

These details can be easy to overlook from the saddle. But when riders learn to truly see the horse on the ground, they begin to feel and understand so much more when they ride.

That’s the kind of horsemanship I want to build.

Not riders who simply know how to make a horse go.

Partners who know how to listen, communicate, and work together. 💜

Sometimes the biggest progress happens when we slow down enough to notice what the horse has been saying all along.
