I spent my entire childhood falling flat on my face—both when no one was watching & on a national stage. But that’s gymnastics for ya—you fall on your face over and over until you stick it—it’s all a part of the process.
It had been a while since a fell on a National stage, but earlier this spring I got to do just that—FALL on American Ninja Warrior, and it was a great reminder of my favorite motto: Fail your way to success.
Behind every success story there’s usually countless “failures” that led up to it. But they don’t usually “televise” the failures. People don’t often brag about them. Nobody usually sees that part.
But I can assure you of this—you don’t succeed by staying in your comfort zone.
When I got invited onto ANW early this year, I planned to train, and I was stoked. However, my Spring Training involved some unforeseen things for my clients, and I didn’t even get the chance to make it into a Ninja gym until 5 days before the race. I trained a total of 45 minutes & tbh, I wasn’t even going to go.
But after stepping foot into the Ninja gym for the first time & having a blast, & with 5 days to go before the race, I asked myself—what am I most worried about?
Failing.
Failing in front of everyone.
And then I realized, if that’s my biggest fear, & ANW has been something I’ve always dreamed of, then competing is exactly what I need to do.
Sometimes, in life, you won’t always be able to prepare exactly how you planned. But you can’t accomplish new things by never trying anything new—And often times that starts with “failing.”
So who cares? Worst case scenario is you “fail.” That’s all a part of the process.
Great things don’t happen by staying in your comfort zone. They also don’t happen perfectly the first time.
So thank you ANW for giving me this opportunity. I’m actually going to train next time 😂—maybe even with too😎—and we’ll be back to conquer it. 🥷🏻💪🏻
And thank you to all the ninjas for making me feel a part of the Ninja family while in Tacoma! 🙏🏻
