This is a gratitude post. A recent hip replacement made me unable to teach, let alone do, the full range of tai chi activities. Standing Zhang postures and qigong (not the more vigorous postures) were all that was possible, for almost 6 months. At this age things deteriorate a lot over 6 months. Doctors, a physical therapist, and the other teachers have told me they are surprised at how quickly i’ve recovered and how I’m moving now. Well short of 100%. But feeling grateful to the people who introduced me to tai chi, and taught me, some of who are still around for further explorations.

We’re starting up a sword class, this coming Saturday July 1 (2023). 11:15 a.m., hourlong class. Here is a teacher of a couple of our teachers doing the form. He was Master Xie Bingcan, a student of Fu Zhongwen.

A student asked me to teach him how to do the separate foot postures higher, above the waist. I asked him, how flexible are you? And he said, I can’t make Sundays through Tuesday, the rest are open.

In keeping with Governor Inslee's statewide stay-at-home order the Tai Chi and Qigong Wellness Center is canceling the first block of Spring Classes and all practice sessions. The classes were scheduled to run from April 7 to May 9 (https://tacomataichi.org/?p=1655).

We are looking into the possibility of offering online meetings. For now, students should contact their teacher for current information about his or her class. If online meetings look feasible, we will post that information on our "Updates" web page (https://tacomataichi.org/?p=1669).

We will continue to monitor the State and CDC best practices in the hopes of reinstating classes or holding practice sessions in Wright Park where keeping a 6 foot personal space is easier to do.
