Wondering if anyone in the international folkdancing world is interested in receiving a collection of "Folk Dance Problem Solver" by Ron Houston of the Society of Folk Dance Historians.
The collection is from 2000-2003, 2005-2013, 2015-2019. There is a cumulative index by title of the dance and by country. Message me if you are interested. They will be available for the next two weeks (until March 15). After that they will be recycled. Thanks for your interest and hope to pass these on as there are many wondering dance directions for so many dances from around the world.

Skandia Dances

First and Third Friday dances take place at the Cedar Valley Grange, 20526 52nd Avenue W., Lynnwood, WA. Unless otherwise noted: Dance class, 7:30–8:30 p.m.; dance party, 8:30–10:30 p.m. Admission: $15; $10 for Skandia members.

Third Friday, July 18, 7:30–10:30 p.m.

Harry Khamis and Pat Pi will teach “Kalle P.” vals. This is a favorite Swedish pattern waltz among Scandinavian dancers. The same dance is called “Margot’s Valsen” in Norway. In recent years, two additional parts have been added to the dance (it was decided that Kalle P. needed a family): Lotta (wife) and Tvillingarna (the twins). Harry and Pat will start with a careful review of Kalle P. and then will add the two additional parts of the dance. See:

Music will be provided by the ever-popular Hale Bill and the Bopps. They are five of our favorite musicians whose musical rhythms and harmonies always drive the dancers to new heights. In addition, visiting ex-Seattleite fiddler Ingrid Hamberg and her Swedish husband will play a set for our dance enjoyment. Come and join in!

Blum & Haugaard Band Concert, June 20

Seattle’s Northwest Danish Association (NWDA https://northwestdanish.org/) welcomes the Blum & Haugaard Band for a mostly acoustic concert on June 20, 2024. Co-sponsored by the Skandia Folkdance Society, the concert will be held in the NWDA’s Harmony Hall. This is an intimate venue and a great opportunity to attend a smaller show.

Harald Haugaard and his wife, Helene Blum, are known as innovators on the Danish folk music scene. Not only do they present incredible renditions of traditional songs and tunes, but they also play newly composed pieces that follow in the folk tradition. Interpretation, showmanship, and connection with the audience come to the forefront with this incredible duo and the rest of the band.

These tireless ambassadors of Danish folk music have been filling concert halls across Europe and in Denmark, but this is their first visit to Seattle in several years. Helene’s haunting voice and presence on stage are the perfect complement to Harald’s brilliance on the fiddle. Together, they create a wide array of different moods and feelings through their music.

The NWDA’s Seattle Harmony Hall is located at 1833 N. 105th St., Suite 205. Doors open at 6:30; the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. There will be refreshments available before and after the show. Tickets are $25 for current NWDA and/or Skandia members and $30 for nonmembers. You can purchase your tickets at this link: Helene Blum & Harald Haugaard Band (https://secure.lglforms.com/form_engine/s/hNJZCOYHVkCCRnl98OL67A).

There is no reserved seating; seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
