Week one is not about being good. It is about learning the process.

At Alliance Program, you do not roll until completing 60 classes and earning two stripes. Until then, each class focuses on one topic: fundamentals, dominant positions, defenses, transitions, and submissions.

Most beginners use strength instead of technique, rush to roll before finishing the process, or try advanced moves too early. That is normal. The process exists so you build the right habits from day one.

If your guard keeps getting passed, watch this.

Most guard retention problems are not a strength problem or a flexibility problem. They are a timing problem. By the time it feels like you are losing the position, the pass already happened two beats earlier, and everything after that is damage control.

In this first Technique Corner, Professor Felipe shows the mistake almost everyone makes in that window, then the correction, slow first and then at real speed so you can see the difference in the details.

Fix one detail like this and you do not just keep the guard. You buy back the seconds you need to work your own game.

Save this one for your next roll. New correction every month, right here.

Three months on the mats. That is usually when parents start telling us: something changed.

Three months is roughly when the newness wears off and the training becomes a routine, and that is exactly why it is the moment the change shows. The child has been through the awkward first weeks, has been paired with partners of different sizes, has lost positions and figured out what to do next.

What parents describe is consistent: more confidence to speak up, better focus on homework, calmer reactions when something does not go their way, and respect that shows up without being asked for.

The part we think matters most is the conflict piece. A kid who has practiced staying calm while someone is physically close and things are not going their way has rehearsed that skill. It usually shows up as fewer explosions, not as more confrontation.

šŸ„‹ THE NEXT GENERATION OF ALLIANCE

Meet João Seda, one of our Kids Program Assistant Instructors at Alliance Jiu-Jitsu Tallahassee.

João has been on the mats since he was very young. Jiu-Jitsu is not simply something he practices, it is part of his upbringing and his family legacy.

His father, Professor Ney Seda, is a 6th-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and owner / Head Coach of Alliance Coral Springs. Growing up surrounded by that level of experience, discipline, and tradition has given João a strong foundation both as a practitioner and as a young instructor.

Today, we are proud to have João helping guide the next generation at Alliance Tallahassee sharing his knowledge, energy, and passion with our kids.

Great instructors are developed over years. Great legacies are built across generations.

Technique is what you see. Habits are what they keep.

Here is what a kids class actually trains, minute by minute. Following a sequence of instructions all the way through, even the boring middle part. Keeping eyes on the professor while someone else is talking. Standing in a line waiting for a turn that is not coming for another four minutes. Working with a partner whose body they have to take care of.

None of that is a lecture about behavior. It is behavior, practiced with the body, dozens of times a class. That is why it transfers: a habit rehearsed under mild pressure holds up better than a rule a child was told about once at the dinner table.

Parents usually notice it somewhere else first. Homework that gets finished. A morning routine with less negotiation. A calmer answer when a sibling takes something.

This is what Jiu-Jitsu is all about. šŸ„‹

Different backgrounds, different ages, different journeys but when we step on the mat, we become one team.

We train hard, challenge each other, laugh together, and help one another grow. The techniques are important, but the friendships, respect, and sense of community are what make the journey truly special.

Great training. Great people. One family.
Alliance Tallahassee — Jiu-Jitsu is better together. šŸ¤šŸ„‹

Today is for the people who work hard for what they want, and most of them do it without an audience. Early shifts, long weeks, work that nobody posts about.

The mats reward the exact same thing. Nobody gets good at jiu-jitsu in a burst of motivation. You get good by coming back on the Tuesday you were tired, the week you were sore and the month nothing seemed to click. On our mats, hard work has a simple name: showing up.

That is also why a holiday is a good day to start. The version of you that trains on a random Wednesday in February is built by decisions like the one you make today.

Academy closed for Labor Day. We’ll be back on 9/8.

See you on the mats.

šŸ„‹ BEFORE THE SPOTLIGHT, THERE WAS HISTORY.

1993 Novo Leblon, Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro.
A purple belt only championship, where I faced MƔrcio Feitosa of Gracie Barra in the final.

We were part of a generation that trained, competed, taught, and helped build Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu long before it became the worldwide phenomenon it is today.

More than 30 years later, we are still on the mats, teaching and passing this art to the next generation.

The medals fade. The memories remain. The legacy lives forever.

šŸ„‹ Honor the past. Teach the present. Build the future.
