3 reasons why cardio isnāt as ideal for weight loss as you may thinkā ļøā ļøā ļø
1ļøā£ Your body adapts to reduce its energy expenditure
-The more you do a certain type of exercise, the more your body adapts to increase efficiency, leading to a decrease in calories burned. This causes people to believe they are burning more calories during aerobic exercise then they really are...leading to overeating and eventually weight loss plateausš¤Æ
2ļøā£Itās easy to consume the calories you burn
-Sure 30 minutes of intense cardio may burn a few hundred calories, but you can easily consume those calories back. A few hundred calories could be equivalent to a simple couple of handfuls of nuts and a fruit. Thatās why doing cardio isnāt enough, you must monitor food/beverage intake.
3ļøā£Cardio doesnāt preserve muscle
You may say weight loss is the goal, but what you REALLY mean is you want to lose fat and not muscle. What the scale says isnāt near as significant as body composition (the amount of muscle and fat in your body). Yes, if you starve yourself and do excessive cardio you will lose weight but itās going to be muscle loss and that is not going to give you the figure you are seeking. The key š here is resistance training! šŖš¼ If you want to lose fat and maintain or gain muscle then weight training MUST be part of workout regimen.
