Reds are turning on.

Fall is right around the corner, and the redfish bite is starting to heat up. As the weather cools down, there are a ton of ways to target reds depending on where the fish are holding and what they’re feeding on.

One of the tried-and-true options is live bait under a popping cork. It’s simple, effective, and a great way to cover water while keeping your bait right where feeding reds can find it.

What works best for you when the fall redfish bite gets going? Popping cork, freelined bait, soft plastic, spoon, topwater?

Drop your go-to in the comments, then come see Lee Fisher Sports for all the gear you need to make the most of your time on the water this redfish season.

Get them landed.

Black drum are hitting the bridges, and when you finally get a big one alongside, you still have to get that fish over the rail. That’s no place to find out your landing net is too small, too short, or simply not built for the job.

Lee Fisher Sports has been building landing nets for anglers for years, with sizes and styles for just about anything you can put a hook into. From smaller inshore fish to big black drum, cobia, grouper, and other heavy fish that require some serious hardware, there’s a net for the job.

The rod and reel get all the attention until there’s a big fish sitting below you. Bring the right net and finish the job.

Whatever you’re targeting, get the Lee Fisher Sports landing net that’s ready to bring it home.

Lunch turned into a fight.

A few little pecks under the popping cork had me thinking pinfish or a small snapper was stealing bait while I ate. I finally picked the rod back up, pulled the line tight, and watched the cork disappear. Instead of another bait thief, an upper-slot red took off.

That’s where dependable inshore gear earns its keep. An Ohero reel handled the run, Hyper Crystal Fluorocarbon kept the connection strong and low-profile, and once the fish was boatside, a set of Lee Fisher fish grips made getting control of it quick and simple.

Circle hooks under a popping cork are still one of my favorite ways to fish this time of year. Let the fish load up, come tight, and there’s a good chance that hook finds the corner of the mouth exactly where you want it.

Apparently this red was hungry for lunch too.

Get geared up with Ohero reels, Hyper Crystal Fluorocarbon, fish grips, and more from Lee Fisher Sports.
