I get this question all the time: “Is protein powder healthy for my kid?”
But what’s interesting is — a lot of parents worry about protein powder, while their kids are eating processed foods every day. That’s where we should really start.
Now, just like anything else, quality matters. It’s no different than comparing low-quality chicken to organic, high-quality chicken — what you put into your body matters.
Protein powder comes from milk. When milk is processed, it separates into whey and casein. Whey is the fast-digesting protein, and when you see “isolate,” that just means it’s gone through a higher filtration process — it’s cleaner and more refined.
So the real question isn’t “Is protein powder bad?” — it’s “What kind are you using, and when?”
As kids get older — especially into high school and college — and their training becomes more demanding, adding in a scoop of high-quality whey protein can absolutely be beneficial.
