Advantage classes are set up to be a positive environment for the entire family and it starts at the door! Students and parents, as a team, walk in, bow in together, and greet everyone by saying, “Hello, Sir! Hello, Ma’am!”
This sets up parents supporting their child and leading by example. PLUS, what do you think a child is thinking when they see their parents engaging in the same activity as them? Connection. Support. Love.
You will also find our team of expert instructors right there to look them in the eye and greet them back with the same enthusiasm! That type of acknowledgement, reward, and recognition is what sets up great success habits and puts a big smile on everyone’s face. 😁
AND, when the child bows in at the door of the academy, they speak in a loud, clear voice — like any leader or public speaker would. Their body language is very intentional before and after the bow: back straight, standing tall, not slouched. Everyone knows if you ask someone to “look like they’re sad” they’ll immediately slouch over and cross their arms… So, our students practice the best body language for the best CONFIDENCE!
All of this is just at the door…before they even set foot on the mat. Imagine what will happen then. AND, imagine that the child and parent practices this over and over again, together, every time they come to Advantage. What will happen to a child’s confidence with consistent practice like that? What will happen to the parent/child relationship with consistent support like that? I’d imagine some great things that will affect them for the rest of their day…the rest of their life.
PARENTS, you can start implementing this at home right now. Here’s my challenge to you, just catch your child with confident body language at home. Or, ask them to stand tall, then give them a high five, look them in the eye, and tell them you love them.
